Course: 12 months Pre-Sea Training course followed by 18 months of Structured Shipboard Training as TNO (Deck Cadet) under Indian Maritime University (IMU) – Directorate General of Shipping (D G Shipping) project, leading to Degree in B. Sc. (Nautical Science) to be conducted at ‘The Great Eastern Institute of Maritime Studies’, (GEIMS) Lonavala Course Details:

Eligibility Academics

(a ) Pass in (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% OR (b ) B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 60% of marks in the final year. OR (c ) B.E./B. Tech. Degree from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by AICTE with an average of not less than 50% of marks in the final year. The candidates should have obtained 50% marks in English language at 10 or 12 Std or in the Degree course conducted by recognized Board or any University. Note: Selection of the candidates and their admissions will be through Combined Entrance Test conducted by Indian Maritime University. Imp information for DNS/TNOC Course "Improvement Candidates" (i.e) those who had secured less than 60% marks overall in Physics - Chemistry - Mathematics (PCM) in Class XII examination and had taken the examination again in order to improve their marks and secured more than 60% in PCM) and / or " Compartmental Candidates" (i.e) those who had failed in one or more subjects in Class XII examination and had appeared in the examination again and passed) subject to the condition that such Improvement / Compartmental candidates should have reappeared in the examinations conducted by the Same Board ; in other words candidates who had changed the Boards (e.g. , from CBSE to NIOS ) are not eligible

About Loan Process 1. Course is approved by some of the nationalized banks for educational loan and payment of entire fees/expenses will be solely the responsibility of candidate. 2. As per recent RBI guidelines you have to apply for educational loan in the Nationalized Bank at the place where you are presently residing. 3. We will help you in providing documents (D.G. Approval, Sponsorship Letter, etc.) required for availing educational loan from the bank. MEDICAL: Physical Standards:

1. Candidates should be healthy and physically fit for sea service as per STCW 2010/MS Medical rules 2000, and all its amendments, as applicable to seafarers.

2. Candidates will have to undergo a full medical checkup through our Panel Doctor & approved by D.G. Shipping.

Eyesight:

1. 6/6 in each eye without visual aids. 2. Normal colour vision. 3. Candidates will have to undergo a full eyesight test by a Company Medical

Officer and or Eye Sight Test by Mercantile Marine Department, Government of India (if required).

Important Information: Indian Maritime University CET ( Pen and Paper Mode , using OMR Sheets)

Common Entrance Test (CET) is conducted by IMU (Indian Maritime University, Chennai, Govt. of India) all over India.

IMU – CET Subjects: (100 marks for 100 questions for the following four subjects)

at 10+2 level (CBSE, ISE & STATE BOARDS).

Candidates are requested to visit IMU’s website (www.imu.edu.in) periodically to keep track of new announcements and changes if any. How to apply:

Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria should apply by filling the Online Application Form. The Application should be submitted in the format given in the website only, with one recent passport size photograph pasted neatly in the right hand top corner.

IN CASE OF DEMAND DRAFT PAYMENT

A Demand Draft of Rs. 1500/- (Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred Only) drawn on a Mumbai branch of any Nationalised Bank crossed “A/c Payee Only” and payable to “The Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd., Mumbai” must be enclosed with the Application Form. Any Application received without the Demand Draft or for lesser amount will not be considered.

Applicant must write his name in CAPITALS & (DNS course) on the reverse of the

Demand Draft.

General Instructions.

1. The Applicants are responsible to ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria, regarding educational qualifications, MMPE test, age and eyesight.

2. Applicants are required to have a passport in hand before joining the course. If not, candidates are requested to apply for passport on an urgent basis.

3. Eligibility criteria for admission to the course are as per the guidelines issued of the Directorate General of Shipping and hence are not changeable.

4. If any false / incorrect information furnished by the Applicant is detected at any

stage, his/her candidature will not be considered and if selected, he will be removed from the training course and course fees will be forfeited

5. Course fees, advance fees, Examination fees once paid, will not be

refunded, partly or otherwise, under any circumstances. 6. As the applications are processed by a computerised system, it is essential that the

application be forwarded strictly in accordance with the prescribed format.

7. Duly filled in Application Form should have one photograph pasted and Demand Draft attached. Originals/photocopies of certificates etc. should not be sent with the application form.

8. All fields in the Online Application Form should be filled with correct details and Application number should be noted by the candidate for all future reference.

9. Candidates should possess at least Twelve (12) recent passport size photographs

(front view) and these photographs only must be used on Application Form, Interview, Medical Examination, training etc. Any change of photograph will disqualify the Candidate.

10. Candidates, at the time of interview, will be required to produce original copies of

proof of age, Degree Certificate, HSC Certificate or equivalent, SSC Certificate or equivalent, where applicable from Govt. recognized board/universities.

Note:

The Offer of admission for Pre-Sea Training and Shipboard Training by GES shall not be considered as guarantee of employment on completion of such training. However, in the event of GES offering employment after passing the Examination, the candidate shall agree to be bound to accept our employment and serve on our vessels for a period of three years. This is a requirement as per the Gazette Notification S.O.2132 (E) issued on December 12, 2007 by Govt. of India.
