University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Society in America MISSION STATEMENT: To uphold the noble Mission of UPMASA and as Board of Governors (BOG) Chairman, I envision to shepherd the many great ideas of its members into more concrete results that will benefit the Filipino people. I envision more engagement from the younger members, and to make UPMASA’s accomplishments more visible and known in social media, and not only to our younger members but to the Filipino community in United States. Attending in-charge of Movement Disorder and Multiple Sclerosis Clinic 1989-1990 Attending Neurologist - Hines VA Medical Center. Attending in-charge of Neuromuscular Division & Consultation Liaison 1991-2011 General Neurology – Private practice Naperville and Winfield, Illinois. Specific interest in Headache and Migraines as well as Multiple Sclerosis. 2005-2011 Co-Medical Director, Stroke and Neurovascular Program of Central DuPage Hospital. . Concurrently served as co-Medical Director of the Neuro-Interventional Program. During this term, started the Northern Illinois Stroke Alliance [NISA] in which Central DuPage Hospital became the hub for various spokes outlying hospitals up to a radius of more than 70 miles, centralizing acute stroke evaluation and management, pioneering use of remote Robotic Telemedicine. During this term, served as principal or sub-investigator in up to 16 concurrent stroke related major studies.

2012 to present Clinic Director, Edward Neurosciences Institute Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Center Stroke and Neurocritical Care: Edward-Elmhurst Health System, Naperville, IL. In affiliation with Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation.

Recent project: Principal Investigator, ImpACT 24B Brainsgate Trial – Collateral blood flow augmentation by stimulation of the Sphenopalatine Ganglion with an implanted device via the pterygopalatine fossa. Results released in 2019 International Stroke Conference, Hawaii.

MEDIA:Dr. Echiverri’s work on stroke has been featured in several Health News in local CHICAGO TV Channels and talk show programs, as well as in Greater Chicago Newspapers and blogs.
