Slather it on toast or straight from the jar, peanut butter is a glo-rious thing. So what is the deal with peanut but-ter? Peanut butter has been around for a long time. Peanuts, native to the Americas, have been made into a rough
paste since Az-tec times. Con-trary to popular belief, George W a s h i n g t o n Carver did not invent the mod-ern peanut but-ter. Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, the man behind C o r n f l a k e s , served his pa-tients peanut butter after pat-enting the “pro-cess of prepar-
ing nut meal” in 1895 and it was Dr. Am-brose Straub who patented the peanut but-ter making ma-chine in 1903 while searching for a way to in-troduce protein to toothless el-ders. Since its in t roduc t ion , peanut butter has become an
essential part of American cul-ture. January 24 is National Pea-nut Butter Day in the United States and it is estimated that the average American child will eat 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before graduating high school! Now that pea-nut butter is on your mind, what’s
keeping you from having some? If you’re feeling up for it, follow the instructions below to make your own at home.
