July 6, 2011

Dear Friends of the Kalachakra,

We would like to extend a heartfelt and grateful welcome to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, upon the opening of this historic Kalachakra for World Peace in Washington, DC, the capital of the United States, on July 6, 2011.

First taught by Shakyamuni Buddha in India, the ancient ritual of the Kalachakra is honored by highly accomplished spiritual masters from many traditions. With its special commitment to achieving the harmony of inner and outer peace, the Kalachakra offers an infinitely valuable and powerful antidote to the forces of ill will and divisiveness.

The Capital Area Tibetan Association (CATA)—along with the greater Tibetan community, and the Mongolian, Kalmyk, and Himalayan communities—is honored to host this rare and wonderful event on behalf of Buddhists throughout North America and the world. The Kalachakra offers an unparalleled way to amplify His Holiness’ profound, unshakable commitment to the values of love, compassion, wisdom and interfaith harmony.

We would like to deeply thank His Holiness for offering such an event in Washington, DC, where daily decisions affect the lives of billions throughout the world. In addition, we humbly want to offer our work on this great event as an expression of gratitude to the people of the United States, our host country, and to all those around the world who have so kindly supported the preservation of Tibet’s rich culture, spiritual heritage, and distinctive identity for many years now. Your kind and generous commitment has enabled Tibet’s unique wisdom-heritage to survive, spread, and take root in all parts of our world.

At this time, we gather to raise a living mandala with His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the center to teach us, guide us, inspire us, and bless us. By attending, you serve as the very instrument through which the great mandala of the Kalachakra for World Peace 2011 arises. Thank you for joining to create this noble gathering.

In closing, we offer our earnest wish for the excellent health and long life of our great teacher and guide, His Holiness the Dalai Lama. May he continue to remain among us, to teach and inspire us with his wisdom and compassion, until all forms of suffering have ended and all beings know true and lasting peace.

Sincerely yours,

July 6, 2011 K a l ach a K r a r it ua l Pr ePa r at ions w e d n e s d ay

With immense kindness and generosity, each Jewel Sponsor offered the procurement of Verizon Center for one day, to allow lower ticket prices so that many could attend the Kalachakra. We are honored to share in offering these dedications by our Jewel Sponsors, and join with them in their pure and beautiful intentions.

P r ay e r of a B o d h i s at t va

With a wish to free all beingsI shall always go for refuge

to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sanghauntil I reach full enlightenment.

Enthused by wisdom and compassion, today in the Buddha’s presence

I generate the Mind of Full Awakeningfor the benefit of all sentient beings.

As long as space endures,as long as sentient beings remain,

until then, may I too remainand dispel the miseries of the world.

July 6, 2011Dear Attendees of the Kalachakra for World Peace 2011,

As your host, the Capital Area Tibetan Association would like to extend our warm greetings and welcome you to this momentous spiritual event. The Kalachakra Empowerment is one of the most sacred and rare of all Buddhist teachings. Its tradition has passed down from masters to masters over hundreds of years. It is our singular honor and privilege to have His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama bestow this Kalachakra for World Peace in our nation’s capital. We hope this event will both be spiritually rejuvenating and educational for all of us.

Although the Kalachakra teaching is primarily a Buddhist tradition, it encompasses the universal concept of the fundamental interdependence of men and nature. Against the backdrop of never-ending geopolitical conflict and crisis, global calamities caused by human error as well as environmental imbalance, we offer the 2011 Kalachakra in the spirit of reasserting our basic shared humanity and increasing our capacity for harmonious co-coexistence with nature. our goal is generating a positive environment for universal peace, understanding and harmony through cultivation of spirituality.

The Capital Area Tibetan Association (CATA) is a community organization of Tibetans living in the area of Northern virginia, Washington, DC, and Maryland. Founded in 1996, CATA’s inspirational vision is the creation of a cohesive and active Tibetan community, dedicated towards the preservation and promotion of Tibetan culture, linguistic and religious heritage, not only inside our community but also with our larger local population.

For a community with a combined population of approximately 250, we are perhaps one of the smallest ethnic groups in the region. The Kalachakra for World Peace 2011 arose in our hearts as a vision but undertaking an event of this magnitude would have been beyond our reach without the expertise, experience and contribution by a core group of dedicated volunteers drawn from varied community and cultures of this area, including those of American, vietnamese, Chinese, Thai and Mongolian heritage

on behalf of the local Tibetan community, we would like to express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to all our sponsors, attendees, supporters, volunteers and friends for making it possible to bring the vision of Kalachakra for World Peace to fruition.

Sincerely yours,

All members of the Capital Area Tibetan Association, represented by its Board of Directors (in alphabetical order):

Dhondup Gonsar Kalden Lodoe Yeshi Tashi

Gyaltsen Tsering Lobsang Yeshi

The Capital Area Tibetan Association is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, registered in the State of Virginia and the District of Columbia.
