CHESS PROGRAMS
At Sunny Time Academy, Chess programs are offered at all levels – beginners, intermediate
players, and advance players. Classes are offered at a small class size varies from 4 to 8. Semi-
private class (one instructor, two students), and private class are also available.
We have regular chess classes that are bundled in our after school programs; in the mean time
we also offer evening and weekend sessions – for detailed schedule and class types, please
contact our office at [email protected] or stop by our office and talk to our staff.
Please refer below for a detailed description for each different chess class we offer.
CHESS 101 (for Beginners)
This course is an introduction to the basic concepts of chess, rules, strategy and tactics. It includes lectures and discussions of the notation, the phases of game (opening, middlegame, and endgame), the checkmate patterns, and strategies. Additionally, topics of chess history and practical decision-making will be addressed. Each Class emphasizes understanding, rather than rote memorization.
THINK LIKE A KING (for intermediate or advanced players)
Chess is a classic game that develops spatial thinking and strategies and builds focused concentration. Taught by a certified chess instructor, lessons will be tailored to individual needs and will provide theoretical explanations well as actual practice. Students will gain knowledge with the help of a workbook, demo board and other visual aids (video records of famous tournament matches in chess history). Learn special tactics to trick your opponent such as: the pin, fork, discovered check, double check, double attack, and much more. Who knows? Maybe your son or daughter is the next Bobby Fischer!

MATH PROGRAMS
From an Etymology perspective, the literal definitions of Mathematics in two ancient languages
are fascinating: In Greek, it is “learning.” In Hebrew, it’s root is “thinking.” Mathematics gives us
the critical ability to learn and think logically in any field of endeavor.
Sunny Time Academy dedicates to deliver useful yet fun Math to young generation, with the
ultimate goal of teaching every student critical thinking. There are two different Math programs
offered at Sunny Time Academy – each has its own curriculum and goal, yet both are aimed to
make Math enjoyable for every student.
AMC 8 Prep
Get READY for this year’s AMC 8 competition! (to be held on Nov 13th, 2018)
In this class, we will learn problem-solving strategies aligned with the Mathematical Practice Standards for classroom and MAA (Mathematical Association of America) AMC success. Find practice examples galore listed by strategy and by Common Core topic. Several full length mock tests are also held and explained in the preparation for this year’s competition. Bring excitement to mathematics learning, thinking, and doing! Let’s compete!
Fun with Math
Hate Math? Think Math is boring? Let this class change your mindset! In this class, we will do nothing but have fun with Math. Here we have –
interesting Math stories
learn about Math Celebrities
fun Math puzzles
cool Math magics
beautiful Math artworks
mind blowing Math equations
and much much more!
Meet our Principle Math Instructor Dr. Feng has nearly 5 years of teaching and leadership experience in education. She received her
Ph.D in Computer Science in 2014 from UT Dallas. Dr. Feng is fascinated by Math since she was a
kid and had competed in Math Olympiad to the national level. Two years ago, during a college
K12 reach out program, she was shocked when a group of kids shared how much they hated
Math. Highly motivated by making Math enjoyable and approachable, he started designing the
“Fun with Math” class series.

Upon completion, students should be able to prepare and deliver well-organized speeches and
participate in group discussion with appropriate audiovisual support. Students should also
demonstrate the speaking, listening, and interpersonal skills necessary to be effective

It’s Debatable (Debate)
