Job DescriptionTextile Machine Operators – Spinners producehigh-quality yarns and twists for the textile industry. They set up and checkmodern roving, fine spin, twisting, reeling,and winding machines that incorporate ahigh degree of automation. They insert spinning materials and reorder yarn carriersand pots.

The Textile Machine Operators – Spinner isresponsible for several machines at the sametime, ensuring production through efficientadjustment, operation, and maintenance ofthose machines. He/she performs qualitycontrol activities to ensure quality of yarns,troubleshoots problems with the machines,and carries out simple repairs such as clearingbunched fabric.

Textile Machine Operator – Spinners work inwool, cotton, and silk spinning mills, or incompanies producing synthetic fibres andfilaments. They may also be employed asinstructors in companies setting up spinningmachines and plants.

Tasks and CompetenciesAfter completion of vocational training, theTextile Machine Operator – Spinner graduateis qualified to:

• Set up and operate units, machines, andauxiliary apparatus for fibre preparation,yarn production, fine spinning, and yarntreatments

• Make simple repairs and maintain machinery and equipment

• Observe safety precautions and protect the environment

• Check fibre properties using laboratory procedures

• Process yarns and twists using conventionaland modern methods including all different kinds of preparation and finishing

• Use accessory agents• Set up, operate, and adjust spinning mills

and multi-sectional spinning machines

Career and Employment OpportunitiesTextile Machine Operators – Spinners workas machine operators, weaving productioncontrollers, and instructors.

They usually work in medium- and large-sized companies within the spinning indu-stry. A Textile Machine Operator – Spinnerknows different kinds of yarns and fibres,their components and raw materials, andtheir properties when made into fabrics.They understand the intended use forvarious fibre products.

Graduate trainees are well-equipped tocompete for jobs. Those that perform wellduring their training have the best chance tocontinue working in their chosen professio-nal field for the same company after gradu-ation as skilled workers, without an initialtraining phase.

Due to the nature of dual training, MKI graduates have had a good introduction tothe spinning process and environment, andhave a better opportunity to becomeProduction Line Managers or QualityControllers with additional work experience.

Further specialisation in a technical field anda service-oriented performance may providethe opportunity for self employment, offe-ring technical consultancy services, forexample.

Career and employment opportunities arerelated to a life-long learning concept toenable the graduate to cope with changesin technology and enhance work perfor-mance.

Training OrganisationComparative advantage through innovativetraining sequences

• Dual training over a 3-year period• Two training and learning locations• 4 days per week are spent on

hands-on training in a spinning company• 2 days per week consist of classroom

training, studying technical subjects such as Technology, Technical Mathematics, and Drawing, and general subjects such as Arabic, English, and Religion

• Up to 5 weeks per year are spent on specialtraining to practice basic skills in workshopsand laboratories of the MKI-TSS

The trainee receives hands-on training in theproduction process 4 days a week in a localspinning plant, developing the necessarytechnical skills and understanding of typicalshop floor activities.

Company training is enhanced by structuredpractical training in the workshop and labo-ratories of MKI schools to learn spinningprinciples for different raw materials, how tocontrol the quality of yarn, and basic machi-ning and processing skills. Students alsolearn workplace safety and environmentalmeasures.

At the end of the third year, the trainee takesa practical and theoretical final examination.

Training Contents • Corporate structure and organisation • Workplace health and safety, environmental

protection, and rational energy utilisation• Reading, preparing, and applying technical

specifications• Electronic data processing• Textile fibre preparation and

yarn production• Cloth construction and materials• Yarn manufacture• Final yarn and cloth treatment • Locating machine faults, repairing simple

faults, and routine machine maintenance• Production-based calculations

• Production planning and control• Material testing and quality control

Examination and CertificateAt the end of the third year, the trainee takesa practical and theoretical final examination.Midterm tests each year are obligatory.

On receiving a suitable grade, the Minister ofEducation awards the graduate a certificateat the level of TSS for the theoretical part ofthe studies.

For the practical part of the course, a certifi-cate is awarded by the respective HRD &Service Centre and registered by theGerman-Arab Chamber of Industry andCommerce.

Admission Regulations (Selection of the trainees)Successful applicants have:

• A preparatory school leaving certificate• At least minimum marks,

according to the Ministry of Education, to enter a corresponding TSS

• Proof of medical fitness• Successfully complete an aptitude test

and a personal interview
