In this process, the cylinder bores arecoated and made extremely smooth. The modification of the crank-cases helps to make the engines lighter and decrease fuel consumption,thus contributing considerably to reducing CO2 emissions.

• With a history reaching back more than 100 years, the Mercedes-Benzplant in Sindelfingen is the most time-honored vehicle plant atDaimler AG. It is the competence center for the production of up-per-range and luxury class vehicles (including electric ones inthe future) within the global production network.

• Sindelfingen manufactures the S-Class, the flagship vehicle fromMercedes-Benz.

• In addition, the facility produces the Sedan and Wagon models ofthe successful E-Class as well as the car’s All-Terrain off-roadvariant.

• Next to the plant are various central functions (Manufacturing Engi-neering, the TECFABRIK, logistics, and quality management of theproduction organization of Mercedes-Benz Cars) and the headquar-ters of the MBC procurement organization. This proximity to centraldivisions makes the facility in Sindelfingen unique.

• The site in Sindelfingen also contains the Group Research unit ofDaimler AG as well as the Development and Design departmentsof Daimler. The Sindelfingen location is thus one of the world’sleading centers of competence for automotive safety, innovation,and design. Around 35,000 people are currently employed at thelocation.

• The plant is being comprehensively modernized without interruptingproduction in order to safeguard its future.

• The modernization measures include the creation of Factory 56, oneof the most advanced automobile production facility in the world.The Factory 56 assembly hall will redefine the way cars are made.In accordance with its slogan, the facility is “digital, flexible, green.”

• The Mercedes-Benz Customer Center Sindelfingen is locatedright next to the plant. Here, more than 250 vehicles are deliveredto customers every day.

• The location in Untertürkheim houses the development, production,and shipment of engines, transmissions, and axles as well as theDaimler Group headquarters.

• The Mercedes-Benz plant in Untertürkheim has a more than 110-yearhistory and is the lead plant within the global powertrain productionnetwork and for the electrified drivetrain.

• The plant is a high-tech facility for the production of highly efficientengines and alternative drive systems.

• In the future, the plant will also produce batteries for electric vehi-cles. The facility in Untertürkheim is thus part of the global batteryproduction network of Mercedes-Benz Cars, which has locations onthree continents.

• The facility consists of a total of six sub-plants. Whereas the facilitiesin Untertürkheim and Bad Cannstatt manufacture engines and housethe forge, the transmissions are produced in Hedelfingen. The axleproduction facility and foundry are located in Mettingen. The trainingcenter is in Brühl, while the flexible manufacturing unit is in Sirnau.

• Untertürkheim is also home to the research and development unitand a high-bank curve for testing vehicles.
