The Road Transport Department (RTD) is introducing a biometric system for vehicle ownership transfer in Malaysia. According to local reports, the system, MySikap, is based on thumbprint biometrics. The RTD handles an average of 1.4m vehicle ownership trans- fers each year. Individual and institutional investors will have to submit for biometric identification before they could buy or sell shares at the Nigerian stock market, according to new rules being proposed by the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). According to The Nation, NSE indi- cated biometric identifiers to be obtained will include fingerprints and iris recognition. Biocryptology technology combines a fingerprint sensor with life sign detection, which protects against ‘spoofing’. Terminals are secure, universal and complimentary products that can easily be integrated with other systems to provide comprehensive, end-to-end security. Morpho (Safran) has launched a long-range iris and face biometrics solution, Morpho IAD (Iris at a Distance), which can capture iris and face data for either enrolment or verifica- tion at a distance of one meter. Morpho IAD performs both authentication and enrollment in one second and is designed for applications in border control, access control and flow management in sectors that require fast and contactless biometric imaging. UINT & Mereal Biometrics has launched a smartcard using Fingerprint Cards’ (FPC) embedded fingerprint touch sensor and pro- cessor. The first implementation of the card is for physical and logical access control for French casino operator Partouche. M2SYS Technology has unveiled a hybrid, fused biometric scanner that combines fin- gerprint, and finger vein identification tech- nology provided by Hitachi Europe Ltd. The M2-FuseID device is aimed at the biometric data capture, identification, and verification of civil ID, patient identifica- tion, banking, visitor management, and other projects requiring dual-factor authentica- tion. Incorporating biometric identification technology that combines two separate sen- sors into a single unit, the M2-FuseID can perform both one-to-many and one-to-one matching for both fingerprint and finger vein templates in a single environment. It is available with M2SYS’ Hybrid Biometric matching systems, which allow customers to perform one-to-many matching of millions of fingerprint and finger vein templates in seconds. BIO-key has announced FreeChoiceID, for mobile biometric authentication privacy. FreeChoiceID allows BIO-key integrations to accommodate and expand on the concepts embodied in mobile biometric platforms such as the Touch ID capabilities of the Apple iPhone 5S, while simplifying development of biometric-enabled applications which need to operate across the variety of device-centric biometric subsystems that are likely to arrive in the marketplace soon. The FreeChoiceID module for WEB-key offers flexibility in where and how fingerprint template data is stored, as well as where and how matching occurs – on the device using BIO-key’s or another available biometric matching subsystem, or in the cloud on secured servers at an enterprise’s or service provider’s data centre. The first smartphone that integrates a FPC sensor with the Precise Biometrics Algorithm Precise BioMatch TM Mobile has been intro- duced on the Asian market. This release is the first of its kind since Precise Biometrics announced in August 2013 that it had entered in an agreement with FPC, a manufacturer of fingerprint sensors. DigitalPersona is to make its newest biometric solution, the UareU 5200 FAP 20 finger- print module and the UareU 5300 FAP 30 module and reader, available to the market in the first quarter of 2014. Both modules are PIV-certified and are targeted at government, finance and healthcare markets. Verizon is expanding availability of its next- generation, cloud-based identity platform – Verizon Universal Identity Services – to Europe. Verizon Universal Identity Services uses multifactor authentication to verify users are who they say they are by combining an individual’s username-password with a com- puting device that generates a one-time pass- word or a biometric scan, such as fingerprint recognition. COMPANY NEWS Global Payout, provider of electronic payment and prepaid card solutions, has signed an agree- ment with ImageWare Systems, the cloud- based multi-modal biometric identity man- agement solutions supplier. ImageWare will provide its GoCloudID Software as a Service (SaaS) platform, which will enable a security solution that will run on top of Fujitsu’s Global Cloud Platform (FGCP). Global Payout and ImageWare will enable secure access services for users of Global Payout’s Consolidated Payment Gateway. Fulcrum Biometrics partner, Redsis Corporation, has completed contracts in South America to deploy biometric software solutions for the banking industry. Redsis, a US-based company with expertise in providing technol- ogy solutions for customers in South America, teamed up with Fulcrum Biometrics to supply state-of-the-art biometric software and finger- print devices from Futronic Technology Co. Ltd. This proprietary system extracts and stores biometric data and is then used for authentica- tion purposes to combat fraudulent activity in the banking industry. Fulcrum Biometrics is Futronic’s North and Central American distributor. Global online payments provider Optimal Payments and Daon have agreed to work together on solutions that will leverage Daon’s biometric authentication system with Optimal’s Netbanx and Neteller payment services. DigitalPersona has acquired Identity Stream, a solution provider that leverages biometrics to ensure positive identification of custom- ers and employees in financial institutions. Identity Stream’s software solution is mar- keted with Temenos, the banking software company, as T24 Biometrics. The solution has seen growth in emerging markets by providing ‘one touch’ identification for any transaction in the Tenemos T24 core banking system. Gemalto will supply Belgium with its Sealys ePassport, due to be introduced in May 2014. Gemalto will provide the Belgian Federal Public Service for Foreign Affairs with more than 400,000 ePassports every year and Zetes will serve as the system integrator in this long- term agreement.
