    LIDA

    Tubular Anodes

    LIDA Tubular Anode

    LIDA tubular anodes are

titanium tubes with a mixed metal

    oxide coating. The mixed metal

    oxide is a crystalline, electrically-

    conductive coating that activates

the titanium and enables it tofunction as an anode.

The mixed metal oxide anode has an

    extremely low consumption rate,

    measured in terms of milligrams

per ampere-year. As a result of this

    low consumption rate, the tubular

    dimensions remain nearly constant

during the life of the anode

    providing a consistently low

    resistance anode.

    Whether operating in soil,

freshwater, mud, or seawater,LIDA mixed metal oxide

    coatings demonstrate very high

    chemical stability even in

    environments with very low pH

    values. Unlike other impressed

    current anodes, the LIDA

    coatings are not affected by

    the generation of chlorine.

A LIDA anode string is comprised

    of electrical cable threaded

    through one or more tubular

    anodes. Electrical connection

    between the anode and cable

    is via a patented, mechanical

    crimping process. The crimp

    connection is likewise utilized

to seal the anode around the

    cable at both ends.

Since only a single cable lead

    protrudes from the hole, the

    junction box is eliminated when

    using a LIDA string reducing

the cost of materials and labor.

    String assemblies are also available

in a looped configuration with two

    tails, or as multiple, staggered

    strings for system redundancy and

    maximum current distribution

    throughout the groundbed.

    De Nora Elettrodi Network

    recommends the use of quality,

    conductive, carbonaceous backfill,

    a vent pipe and Ventralizers,

    suitable cable, good design

    practices, and understanding.

Please contact us or our approved

    distributors for advice.

    ADVANTAGES

    LIDA Crimp Many impressed

    current anodes are connected to

    the cable with resin-based seals,

    which may develop cracks or

lose adhesion to the cable or the

    anode. Moisture penetration also

may occur, resulting in loss of

    electrical contact.

    LIDA anodes are connected with

    a special crimping process which

improves the life of the tubular

    anode system.

On the surface, the crimp on theends and in the middle appears

the same. Yet they serve different

    purposes and are made differently.

    The center crimp makes electrical

contact with the cable while the

    end crimps form a moisture-

    resistant seal.

    Electrical connection between the

tubular anode and the power cable

wire is achieved by sliding the tube

onto the cable and crimping a

section of the tube at mid-lengtharound a stripped portion of

    the cable.

Both ends of the tubular anode

are sealed over the insulated cable

by applying 50 tons of hydraulic

    pressure. This crimping process

    eliminates the need for mastic

    or resin sealants.

    Reliability In choosing the LIDA

    tubular anode, you have selected

the most durable and reliableproduct in the industry for yourcathodic protection needs. LIDA

tubular anode strings are backedby a five-year, no hassle warranty.

    Design, assembly and installation

    factors have been carefully

    considered so that your time

    and costs are minimized as

    much as possible.

    Ease Of Installation The LIDA

    anode-cable assemblies are easy to

handle, transport and install becauseof their unique flexibility. It makesyour on-site job easier as well.

    Earth Contact BackfLORESCO

Loresco RS3 is the newest and most

    innovative super conducting earth contact

backfill in the Loresco product line. RS3

combines the characteristics of superior low

resistivity and high bulk density with a

remarkably rapid sinking ability to provide

the latest in conductive carbon backfill

technology. Because of the new rapid sinking

ability RS3 is able to achieve maximum

compaction quickly. Rapid sinking allows for

a faster construction completion time and

faster energizing of the anode system. Rapid

sinking allows for pouring when pumping isnot an option. RS3 is able to handle the

demands of stringent field requirements. This

is the first time a conductive carbon backfill

    combining pumping ability and pouring

ability has been available in one bag. RS3 is

manufactured under a new process which

creates a new surface with superior

    conductive properties. This manufacturing

process is exclusive to conductive carbon

    formulations designed for cathodic

    protection. The new manufacturing process

ensures the impressed current anode and

RS3 system have increased electronic flow

performance to further increase the life of the

anode system. Loresco RS3 is produced

    specifically for cathodic protection

    applications using an exclusive multi-

    step process.

First, a very high quality base carbon with

desired characteristics is selected. Next, this

carbon is calcined to a minimum temperature

of 1250 C under very exacting and

controlled standards. This step results in

    semi-graphitized carbon particles with

    excellent conductivity. All particles shaped

and surface modified for maximum electrical

    conductivity and high-current applications.

Then, to further improve the bulk

conductivity, the surfaces of the individual

particles are modifiedto enhance the contact

conductance in a process exclusive only to

the corrosion industry. This breakthrough in

    surface alteration ensures maximum

    electronic current transfer with positive

    anode contact. Finally, a specially

formulated surfactant is added to reduceparticle surface tension for compact settling

    under water.

Loresco RS3 has a bulk density of 68 lbs

per cubic foot. The fixed carbon content is

greater than 99% by weight. The bulk density

and high fixed carbon content coupled with

the assured low resistivity medium allows

for longer groundbed life at a loweroperating cost.

    INSTALLATION

Loresco RS3, due to its maufacturing

process, is simple to install by either mixing

and pumping or by pouring dry. With deep

anode systems, pumping from the bottom up

is recommended. Loresco RS3 has superbpumping qualities due to the addition of

surfactants and when agitated in water, takes

on the characteristics of super heavy mud.

Time before energizing is greatly reduced

after installing RS3. The modified surface of

the carbon particles coupled with the action
