PROCEDURE FOR LEE DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATE APPOINTMENT

April 1, 2016

1.  The candidates will be interviewed at the April 11, 2016, School Board meeting which will

 be held in the Falcon Room at Fauquier High School. The meeting will begin at

7:00 p.m., and the regular business will precede the interviews. The interviews will beginat approximately 7:30 p.m.

a.  Until the candidate has been interviewed, he or she must remain outside the Falcon

Room.

 b.  The candidates will be interviewed in alphabetical order of their last names. (Ms. Bell  –  

Mr. Green - Mr. Mason –  Ms. Ott)

c.  Each interview will be no longer than 20 minutes.

d.  The following questions will be asked with the possibility of additional specific

questions regarding each candidate’s resume and statement of interest:

 

What is the motivation for your seeking a School Board seat?

  What do you see as the current challenges facing public education in our School

Division?

  If appointed, what would you hope the School Board could accomplish?

  How should the Board balance the need to provide a meaningful education for

all students with the need to use taxpayer dollars efficiently?

  How would you distinguish your role as a School Board member from an

administrator?

2.  There will be a public hearing regarding the candidates on Monday, April 25, 2016, at 6:00

 p.m. in the School Administration conference room.

3.  The School Board will deliberate in a Closed Session meeting following the public hearing

on April 25, 2016.

4.  The School Board has the option to leave the Lee District School Board seat vacant until

the November 2016 election. Should the School Board decide to appoint a Lee District

School Board member, the candidate will be chosen by a majority vote at the May 9, 2016,

School Board meeting in the Falcon Room at Fauquier High School, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

5. 

If a Lee District School Board member is appointed at the May 9, 2016, School Boardmeeting, their appointment will be effective immediately and they will serve through

December 31, 2016.

6. 

The elected Lee District School Board member will begin their service January, 2017.

If the appointed member wishes to participate in the election process he or she should

contact the registrar’s office immediately and follow the procedure to do so.
