Top-Down Design with Mechanism AssembliesYou can now design a skeleton model that includes motion.

Product Information

Product Pro/ENGINEER Advanced AssemblyPTC Support Release Wildfire 3.0

Product Functional Area Assembly

User Interface Location Click Insert > Component > Create > Skeleton Model > Motion orBody.

Benefits and Description

Motion skeletons are available in Assembly, allowing motion to be incorporated into the modelat the beginning of the design process. There is no longer a need to recreate an assembly toinclude a mechanism analysis.

You can create mechanism bodies and connections as a motion skeleton, then run a simplekinematic analysis to ensure that the skeleton provides the appropriate degrees of freedom. Youcan then create and assemble components to the motion skeleton. Motion skeletons are definedin the same way as normal assembly skeletons and include reference control settings. They donot appear in the assembly bill of materials.

Manufacturing Template Replacement duringExtractionYou can extract manufacturing templates other than those stored in the design model.

Product Information

Product Pro/ENGINEER Complete MachiningPTC Support Release Wildfire 3.0

Product Functional Area Manufacturing (NC, Expert Machinist)

User Interface Location In the Mfg Template AE Extraction dialog box, click the Optionstab and Use External Template.

Benefits and Description

The design model can include many Annotation Elements in the manufacturing templates, butthose templates may not be the templates the NC process designer is using to create the process. If this is the case, you can exchange the templates directly in the design model (Tools > UpdateMfg AEs in Solid mode). If you do not have permission to overwrite the design model, you canextract processes from templates different from those stored in the design model.

Set the configuration option mfg_process_template_dir to the directory storing manufacturingtemplate replacements. The exchange occurs if the templates are compatible (use the samereferences). If there is no equivalent template there is no exchange, and the NC process iscreated with the templates in the design model.

Step Depth for Area TurningA new computation technique for step depth in area turning is available.

Product Information

Product Pro/ENGINEER Complete MachiningPTC Support Release Wildfire 3.0

Product Functional Area Manufacturing (NC, Expert Machinist)

User Interface Location Click MANUFACTURE > MACHINING > NC Sequence. SelectArea Turning and click NC Parameters.

Benefits and Description

In area turning, the toolpath is generated by scanning an area in the model cross section (turnprofile) where you want the material to be removed in step-depth increments. The area issubdivided in regions corresponding to the diameters of the intermediate reference part to bemachined. Two options are available for the NC parameter STEP_DEPTH_COMPUTATIONto compute the pass resulting from the STEP_DEPTH parameter:

BY_REGION: Takes into account the diameter of the intermediate reference part to bemachined in the default value and in current behavior.

BY_AREA: Ignores completely the diameters of the intermediate reference part andprovides a constant step depth on the overall area.

The new NC parameter, CONNECT_OVERLAP, controls the distance traveled along thesurface of the part, above the previous pass, and before the rapid connection:

Product Functional Area AssemblyUser Interface Location Select the Drag Icon in the Assembly toolbar.

Benefits and Description

You can quickly and easily see component interference in Assembly while draggingcomponents during kinematic studies. You can configure the various collision settingsdepending on the results being examined:

Intersecting Volume: During assembly dragging, the intersecting volume highlights andupdates in real time during the movement of the components as they intersect.

Stop on Collision: When a component is being moved and intersects with anothercomponent, the component stops when the surfaces come into contact. The componentsare not permitted to pass through one another.

Push on Collision: When a component is moved and collides with another componentwith remaining degrees of freedom, the moving component pushes the other componentout of the way in the direction of the movement of the dragged component.

Restricted Parameter Names and ValuesBy specifying an external file, you can define restricted parameter names and values. From theParameters dialog box, users can add these parameters and select from a list of values, or definea value within a specified range.

Product Information

Product Pro/ENGINEER Foundation AdvantagePTC Support Release Wildfire 3.0

Product Functional Area Fundamentals & Pro/PROGRAMUser Interface Location Click Tools > Parameters.

Benefits and Description

To ensure users are selecting from a predefined set of values, you can create distinct lists ofparameter values or constrained ranges from which they can select. Parameter names can alsobe explicitly defined. Users can easily add a parameter by selecting from a list and thenselecting the parameter value or typing a value within a range.

The restricted parameter names, values, and value ranges are stored in an external file.

When a restricted parameter is created in a model, the restriction definition is also copied intothe model. Therefore, the definition remains intact if the external file is lost or if changes aremade to the external file. To update the restriction definition, use options in the Parametersdialog box. You can run a conflict report from the Parameters dialog box to find discrepanciesbetween the model and the external restriction file

To direct Pro/ENGINEER to this external file, define the external file path name by setting theconfiguration option restricted_val_definition.

Product Information

Product Pro/ENGINEER Foundation AdvantagePTC Support Release Wildfire 3.0

Product Functional Area Detail DrawingUser Interface Location Click Datum > Properties.

Benefits and Description

In Drawings, set gtol_datums to std_iso to attach set datum tags to geometric tolerances asrequired. You can also attach set datum tags to geometric tolerances in 3-D models. Because3-D set datums do not appear in models if they are attached to geometric tolerances, thisfunctionality is restricted by the geometric tolerance owner and the set datum owner. You canattach 2-D set datum tags to 2-D geometric tolerances, and 3-D set datum tags to 3-D geometrictolerances.

As a result you have more support for 3-D drawingless model standards, and more flexibilityand associativity in drawings.
