Tuesday was an exciting day for all as we spent a half
day in our grades for next year. We welcomed our new
Preps Cooper, Evie, Rachel, Rhianna, Matthew and
Thomas for their first big day at school. Our current
Preps were great buddies, helping our new students get to
know our routines and classroom rules. All students
worked really hard and thoroughly enjoyed their
morning.

December in the Axedale Park from 6.30pm
for pre carol food and entertainment with Christmas Carols from 7.30pm. Students who are in attendance
will be performing four singing items and an item with the Ungklungs.
SCHOOL CHOIR PRACTICE
Last night our school choir had a practice with the Bendigo Youth Reserve Choir. Students worked hard to
practice for their upcoming Christmas concerts. The choirs also had the chance to listen and sing with the
performing choir. This was a great opportunity for our students. Thank you to all the parents for driving the
children into Bendigo for this practice.
TYPHOON HAIYAN APPEAL
As you would know, a market stall was held recently to raise money for the Typhoon Haiyan Appeal. As
part of the CWA Bush Market Day, the stall was able to raise the amazing amount of $2,560. Many thanks
to Corrine for co-ordinating the stall and to the families who supplied goods and food to sell. Thank you
very much! If every town our size in Australia was able to raise this much, imagine how many people in the
Philippines would benefit.
Deborah Gates from the Red Cross in Bendigo will come out to our assembly next Monday 9th
December.
Our Junior School Council president Connor Cushen (whose initiative got the whole appeal underway), John
Caburnay and Keely Van Wynen will present Deborah with a cheque for $2,670.85 from the Axedale
Community.
BUS TRAVELLERS
From tomorrow and for the remainder of the year, electronic devices, hand held games, ipods, iPads, mobile
phones etc are not to be bought on the bus or to school. We feel it a good time to take a break from this
activity for a few weeks. We thank parents for their support in ensuring these items are kept at home.
PREP-3 GYM
Next Tuesday 10th
December the Grade Prep – Grade 3 students will be travelling into Bendigo to go to the
gym. They will have a 1 hour session from 1.45-2.45pm. There is no cost for this excursion. Thank you to
Palmer’s Gym for this opportunity.
GRADE 6 GRADUATION EVENING
Plans for the Grade 6 Graduation evening are now confirmed. Grade 6 students and their parents are invited
to come along to the Dragon City Bowling Alley in Hargreaves St. on Tuesday 17th
December from 5.45pm
and join in a fun game against their friends or even take on mum and dad. After bowling we will be making
our way up to La Porchetta for tea from 7.00pm.
School will cover the cost of the bowling, while parents are asked to cover the costs of their meals.
The students are asked to begin working on a speech about their time at Axedale including good/funny
memories, highlights, things they will miss and things they are looking forward to. Students have
traditionally presented this speech to their fellow Gr. 6’s and the parents on the night.
Parents are asked to complete the slip at the end of the Newsletter with probable family numbers attending
so that bookings can be confirmed.
SCHOOL HELPERS – THANK YOU MORNING TEA
On Thursday 12th
December at 11.00am, staff will be hosting a Morning Tea for all
those who have volunteered their time this year to help out. We appreciate the
amazing amount of support that parents and community members put in to help our
students develop all the academic, personal and social skills that are required to be
successful in life. It takes a village to raise a child!
Please spread the word and we hope to see you here on the 12th
.
QUICK SHEAR
On Saturday 25th
January, a Quick Shear competition and Family Day will be held at the Axedale Park. An
organising committee made up of local residents and representatives from the school and pre-school have
been working on plans for the day over the last month or so. Profits from the event will be shared between
the school and pre-school.
We will be looking for considerable help on the day. More information regarding volunteers will be in next
week’s newsletter.
SCHOOL COUNCIL FOLLOW UP
At our last School Council a number of key items were discussed.
Plans for building works on the brick building were discussed and initial planning works in
conjunction with DEECD are underway. We hope to have this works completed by the end of Term
Two 2014.
A letter has been sent to Vic Roads outlining concerns around two traffic issues. We have noted our
concerns with the Vic Roads regarding the area along Axedale Goornong Rd where the truck
accident occurred last week. Our bus travels along this section each day. We have suggested an
80km/hr restriction may be considered.
We have also requested the section of Axedale Goornong Rd. nearest to the school be considered as a
40km/hr limited area as many students cross this road daily to get to school.
2014 DATES
Staff will return to work on Tuesday 28th
January. All students will begin school Wednesday 29th
January.
Preps will have Wednesdays off from Wednesday 4th
February.

they will be stored for easy access by students throughout the year.
END OF YEAR EVENING
Our end of year Christmas Concert will be held at school on Thursday 19th
December. Please put this date
into your calendar. To start the evening, we will have a picnic basket tea from 6.15pm, or for those who
wish to cook, the BBQ will be available.
