Demographics

School Enrolments and Configurations

Prince Albert Collegiate Institute has 204 students enrolled for the 2015-2016 school year. Our school has the following distribution of students from Grade 9 through 12. A stabilization classroom located off campus has an enrollment of 8 students.

Student and School Demographics

PACI has a rich history and a proud tradition. It has developed a strong academic program of study offered in a small caring school environment.

The 2015-2016 academic year will see the Collegiate increase its emphasis on the development of leaders for Prince Albert and area. PACI students, staff and alumni play important roles in the community. Creating opportunities and encouraging students to engage in their school is a focus. The Fine Arts are continuing to increase in focus at PACI.

The student population of PACI reflects our community and surrounding area. Students attending PACI live in both rural and urban areas. PACI strives to be culturally responsive in its academic programs and supports to students.

Governance Structure

PACI Community Council

The Collegiate's Community Council is a relatively small but very effective group that operates with a Town Hall model of decision making. It has focused its energies on providing students enhanced opportunities for achievement by supporting literacy initiatives.

In the past it has supported the Collegiate's SMART goals by providing students with funds to support our breakfast and lunch programs, new equipment and access to community events and school functions.

PACI Alumni Association

The Collegiate has a strong tradition that is supported by an Alumni Association. It has focused on keeping the history within our school alive, organized a 100

th and supports various learning initiatives within the school.

This year, our Alumni is involved in looking for donations with the Alumni’s Buy A Brick Program to develop a new Fitness Center for our PACI family.

Communication Plan PACI plans to inform our community about our Learning Improvement Plan through the monthly SCC meetings, the posting of minutes and the posting of the core areas of the LIP on the PACI SRPSD web site.

By creating a community within PACI, communication is an ongoing focus. Communication is provided to our parents and

community via our website, newsletters sent home and to our Alumni, the use of social media and personal contact with home.

Commitments

At PACI, we are committed to providing excellent learning opportunities for our students. We provide learning experiences that are not available in a larger school. Personal connections and support from staff are very important to us.

We provide a strong academic literacy based program with expectations that all students can and will achieve. By engaging our students, we believe that we can build resiliency and strong work ethics within our students. PACI staff are committed to making sure this happens.

We will provide extra-curricular activities for students. For a small school, we provide numerous opportunities - Student Leadership, Volleyball, Cross country, Nanowriters, Basketball, Rugby, Drama, Dance, Diverse Newspaper, Media, Badminton, Track n Field, Art, Fitness, Students Against Drunk Drivers, Model United Nations, Skills Canada, Encounters Canada, Community Kitchen and various clubs centered around student interest.

Programs and Services

PACI - Evolving and Progressing

The academic program at PACI is strong. We are proud to provide our students with the foundation to be successful in post-secondary programs. We can proudly refer to examples of recent PACI graduates who are now engineers, nurses and teachers. Others are working towards becoming journeymen trades people. Still others have started businesses or have joined the work force.

PACI has a cherished spot in the community of Prince Albert. We aim to continue that place at the core of our community by offering students opportunities to practice leadership and engage in authentic learning experiences within and outside of the classroom.

The PACI Alumni Association is supporting our future. They provide scholarships for our students, have provided technological enhancements and supported the creation of our dance studio. The PACI Alumni Association is currently asking for donations to their Buy A Brick Initiative to create a Fitness Center for the PACI community. Mr. Anderson, a PACI alumni has been instrumental in making our dance studio, upgrading our stage and theatre and renovating our visual art studio and creating the Gallery. We are fortunate to have amazing community support. Community stakeholders have made donations to support our Breakfast and Lunch programs.

The PACI staff are incredible. They have high expectations, support all our students and work to provide engaging learning opportunities. They volunteer hundreds of hours for our extra-curricular programs.

Our Grade 9 program follows Saskatchewan Ministry of Education guidelines. Students have the opportunity to get a taste of the Arts program PACI offers. In Practical and Applied Arts, we offer students with a survey of courses offered within our school.

Arts We provide Dance 10, 20 and 30; Drama 10, 20 and 30; Visual Art 10, 20 and 30; Music 10, 20 and 30. Partnerships with

arts organizations within the community help provide a well-rounded and rewarding Fine Arts experience.

Practical and Applied Arts The school offers a number of Practical and Applies Arts classes for secondary students. PACI is also active with the Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship program. We will offer Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship 20, Leadership 30, Wildlife Management 20, Information Processing 10, Communication Media 20 & 30, Photography 20 & 30, Career and Work Experience 10, 20, 30, Theatre Arts 20, Fitness 20.

Use of Instructional Technology Technology continues to evolve and make it more possible to engage students in learning activities. PACI provides a wireless environment for learners and staff. Every teacher in every period has access to a SMART Board as a way to support student learning. Computers and iPads are available for all students to use throughout the day.

Supports for Learning At PACI we want our students to have the opportunity for success at school. We have staff to supports our students within our school setting.

Social Social Worker - Our school social worker works with students and families connecting them with services within our community.

Mentors - We have mentors that support First Nation/Metis students by providing support for meeting academic requirements, attendance, employment opportunities, resume writing, after school program development, transportation to outside agency appointments, support with post-secondary programs and applications, support with governmental personal identification processes and so much more.

Staff Learning Initiatives PACI staff are involved in a variety of learning initiatives that support our students and provide teachers with opportunities to enhance their own learning. PACI is part of the Dreamcatcher Project within Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division. This project provides for a staff embedded coach to support teachers in their work towards our school goal of increasing credit attainment and SRPSD’s goal of increasing our three-year graduation rates. PACI’s goal is to make sure that our Bears leave the Den in 3 years. Teachers meet with our coach leader weekly and work on strategies to increase student engagement and support students in their learning. Students are assigned to TAGs -Teacher Advisory Groups. TAGs focus on creating relationships with students and families. They also support students in individual goal setting and monitoring of goals in order to graduate in 3 years.

Staff are also involved in the following Saskatchewan Rivers School Division Initiatives.

Math PLC - This group involves high school math teachers within our school division and addresses planning for new curriculum

English PLC - This group involves high school English teachers within our school division and addresses planning for new curriculum

Social Sciences PLC - This group involves high school Social Science teachers within our school division and addresses planning to support outcome based learning.

Science PLC - This group involves high school Science teachers within our school division and addresses planning to support new Science curriculum.

Arts PLC - This group involved high school Arts teachers within our school division and addresses planning to support outcome based learning.

Educational Support Teachers meet regularly to support their learning within our school division and this year is also focusing on providing appropriate programming and support to our English Additional Learners within our school.

Teachers interested in technology meet regularly to share technology opportunities to teachers within our school division.

We have staff representing SRPSD at the Ministry level - Reading/Writing Essential Skills & Development and Developing Questions for Departmental Examinations.
