    Philips and the ISRRT Announce Entries are Open for the 2011 DosewiseRadiographer of the Year

    Sydney, Australia Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) and the InternationalSociety of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT) have announced entries areopen for the 2nd Dosewise Radiographer of the Year competition. The award which recognizesexcellence in maximizing patient and clinical safety while adhering to the As Low as ReasonablyAchievable (ALARA) principle in an X-ray environment received entries from developed anddeveloping countries in 2010.

    This years competition atwww.dosewise.com/award asks participants to share in 500characters or less, a best practice example of how they adhered to the ALARA principle in aclinical environment. Entries close on November 30, 2011. Peers will be able to vote for theentries that will move onto the finals. The winner of the 2011 Dosewise Radiographer of theYear will receive a sponsored trip to the ISRRT World Congress 2012 in Toronto, Canada .

    Following a competitive inaugural year selection process Mr. Yogesh Jha a radiologicaltechnologist from the Dr Iwamura Memorial Hospital and Research Center in Nepal wasselected for his unwavering commitment to putting patients first by maximizing their care in theX-ray environment.

    I am excited to be the inaugural winner of the ISSRT Dosewise Radiographer of the yearbecause the award is showcasing the importance of upholding the fundamental principles ofradiography. This program will help educate others about the safe use of ionizing radiation,especially in the developing world, said Mr. Jha.

    Dr Michael Ward, president of the ISRRT said, "Mr Jha was chosen unanimously by the judgingpanel, made up of our committee members from around the world. He noted that despite achallenging working environment there were a number of simple techniques that he couldundertake to limit patient exposure during radiological examinations. In addition, he worked withreferring clinicians within the hospital to ensure secondary exams were ordered only whennecessary to ensure improved outcomes and committed to providing patients with moreinformation about their exams via posters throughout the waiting areas.

    The 2011 Dosewise competition also provides an opportunity for entrants to discuss clinical andpatient topics with peers and stay up to date with the latest news, events and innovations inmanaging radiation dose in the X-ray environment.

    Philips and the ISRRT are committed to working together to promote the As Low as ReasonablyAchievable (ALARA) principle to ensure that radiographers and radiological technologists, inboth developed and developing countries, play their an essential role in the safe delivery of bestclinical care to patients.
