Its main purpose is to protect its content.

Carton is the name of certain types of containers typically made from paperboard or corrugated fiber board used for packaging and shipping of goods and materials

Paperboard/corrugated fiberboard is a paper-based material consisting of a fluted corrugated sheet and one or two flat linerboards. It is widely used in the manufacture of corrugated boxes and shipping containers.

Paperboard can be single or multiply.

It is strong and therefore used for packaging.

Corrugated board or paperboard can be classified as:-

1. Single-faced corrugated board or single-faced rolls used for wrapping uneven objects and as separating pads.

2. Board made from one layer of fluting sandwiched between two liners called "single wall" or "double-faced" corrugated board.

3. Board made from two layers of fluting sandwiched between three liners is called "twin cushion" or "double-wall“ corrugated board.

4. Three layers of fluting sandwiched between four liners is called "triple wall" or "triwall".

Where does the board get its strength from?

Take a sheet of paper about 1 inch high and 6 inches wide.

Now hold it straight (Vertical) and place a glass of water (or any other weight) on it.The paper wont take the load.

Now fold it in zigzag fashion.

Now hold it straight (Vertical) and again place the same glass of water (or weight) on it.

The weight stands comfortably on the zigzag paper.

This implies that, in a corrugated sheet, the load is actually taken up by the flute(s) and the liners are provided to keep the flutes straight.

COLOR:- Comes in two standard colors brown and white. Whites are always expensive than the brown ones.

Size of the cartons

1.The length is always the larger of the two dimensions of the open face .

2. The width is the smaller.

3. The depth is always the distance perpendicular to the length and width .

4. Cardboard box size are always measured on the inside. The sizes are almost always expressed by length x width x depth example:- cube boxes 3*3*3 or tall boxes 4*4*12.
