El barrio Grenada está localizado en el Distrito V de Managua y se origina en 1982 como un asentamiento urbano planificado dentro del programa de urbanizaciones progresivas implementado por el desaparecido Ministerio de Vivienda y Asentamientos Humanos (MINVAH), con el objetivo de reasentar a familias que habitaban en zonas de alto riesgo ambiental, derechos de vías de líneas de alta tensión o en zonas de reserva para ampliación de autopistas en el sector Suroriental de la ciudad.

El nombre del barrio hace alusión a la isla caribeña de Grenada que fue invadida por Estados Unidos en Octubre de 1983 para derrocar al gobierno socialista de Maurice Bishop.

Según datos del Censo Nacional 2005, en el barrio habitan 2,604 personas (52.5% mujeres), el 35.1% menores de 15 años. La población se distribuye en 503 hogares de los cuales el 43.9% tiene jefatura femenina y el 5.4% cuenta con al menos un miembro con algún tipo de discapacidad.

Barrio Grenada is located in District V of Managua. It was founded in 1982 as part of a progressive urbanization program implemented by the now defunct Settlement and Housing Ministry (MINVAH). Its main objective was to re-settle families from high-risk environmental areas and allow for expansion of electrical grids and highways.

The name of the neighbourhood refers to the Caribbean island of Grenada that was invaded by the United States in 1983 in order to overthrow the socialist government of Maurice Bishop.

According to the National Census of 2005, 2,604 people live in the district (52% women; 35% under 15 years). The population is distributed among 503 households, out of which 44% are headed by women and 5 % have at least one member with a disability.

Barrio Grenada has a communal area, a multi-purpose court, a soccer field, and a Catholic Church. The Gabriela Mistral School and the
