Two new magnesium amide complexeshave been synthesised. Four supramolecular isomers withone-dimensional helical chains of D-2Æ(2H2O)n, K-2Æ(2H2O)n, K-2Æ(MeCN)n andK-3Æ(1.25H2O)n were obtained by the reac-tions of the [Ni(a-RR-L)]2+/[Ni(a-SS-L)]2+

Effect of second-sphere coordination 13.Consideration of factors affecting adductformation of ruthenium–ammine com-plexes with crown ethers based on thestability constants

Adduct formation was systematically in-vestigated for ruthenium–ammine com-plexes with crown ethers. Factorsaffecting the stability of adduct and redoxpotential of the complex were ascertainedbased on the stability constants: the flex-ibility of crown ether ring, the number ofpossible hydrogen bonding, the strength ofhydrogen bonding, and the p-electronacceptability of ancillary ligand.

A new efficient bis(phosphinite)-rutheniu-m(II) catalyst system for the asymmetrictransfer hydrogenation of aromatic ketones

We report the use of chiral bis(phosphi-nite)-ruthenium(II) catalyst system as anefficient catalyst for asymmetric transferhydrogenation of ketones. The new catalystsystem can readily be formed in situconditions in reaction media. This catalystsystem gave the secondary alcohols up to90% or 89% ee’s at 50 or 82 �C, respectivelyin the asymmetric transfer hydrogenationof acetophenone derivatives.

X-ray struc-ture of 1 shows pseudo octahedral geome-try around Ru with cis-(Cl,Cl) arrangement.Reversible Ru(III)/Ru(II) reduction couplealong with irreversible Ru(III)/Ru(IV) oxi-dation has been observed. Mono and dinuclear thiobenzoate com-plexes of Ni(II) have been synthesized andcharacterized. Existence of Ni–Ni bondshave been confirmed in dinuclear complexeson the basis of X-ray structural analysis andmagnetic moment measurements. NBO cal-culations have been carried out to under-stand the nature of bonding. The figureshows the dz2 —dz2 orbital overlap of twonickel atoms in the complex 4 and 5. Thebond distances obtained by the X-ray dif-fraction of crystals 4 and 5 fall in the rangeof Ni–Ni covalent bond distance.

Oxidative coupling of 2,6-di-methylphenol,remains as a very important industrialreaction, which has not been completelyunderstood. We have employed severalrelated cupric complexes to catalyze amodel reaction: the oxidative coupling of2,6-di-tert-butylphenol, the activity is cor-related with the most abundant copperspecies in solution. Discussion about theirspeciation and some remarkable effectsregarding the catalytic effect induced bysome of the complexes, are presented.
