Goal

• operate one VELO module with the final components and control software of every subsystem[cooling, vacuum, LV, HV, interlocks, DAQ]

• investigate the possibility to switch on several modules under Neon atmosphere

• check noise level compared to the assembly lab• check integrity of the module

Temperature Management

VELO module:

• R- and -sensor

• 2 x 16 Beetle chips [~ 2 x 15 W]

• hybrid core: thermal pyrolytic graphite [TPG]

Cooling:

• 2-phase CO2

• full VELO half is cooled simultaneously

Safety [interlock system]:

• LV switched off if NTC temperature > 30 ° C

cooling block

Temperature Monitoring:

• on the cooling blocks:PT100

• on the hybrid:2 x NTC per side

Programme

• adjust position of the VELO halves to give maximal tolerance for p while cooling

• turn on warm cooling of the C-side with backup chiller

• gradually switch on and configure the hybrid• operate the hybrid with sensor bias [HV]

During this procedure:• carefully watch p and hybrid temperature• take data for important configurations

P = Pbeam - Pdetector [-5,+2 mbar]

Summary and Outlook

Milestone in VELO commissioning reached:• VELO module successfully operated with final

components for all subsystems• control software allowed reliable operation• module M36 in good shape [IV curve similar to previous

ones]

• noise level lower than in assembly lab• operation of a few modules under Neon

atmosphere should be feasible
