The Gallagher Story

Welcome to Gallagher electric fencing.

My father pioneered the first Gallagher electric fencing system way back in the 1930’s and that spirit still drives us today.

It’s decades of field expertise around the world that sets us apart, we’re constantly talking to customers every day and feeding that back into our extensive Research & Development team.

If you don’t find the right Power system for your needs then please speak to one of the friendly store staff or call one of the Gallagher team direct. We love to hear from our customers and will be only too happy to find a system that meets your needs.

Best regards,

Sir William Gallagher

3. Animal receives shock when it touches the fence.

A short, safe and memorable shock to create a psychological as well as a physical barrier.

How Electric Fencing Works

SAFEAnimals remember and develop a respect for the fence

DURABLEStock pressure on your fence is reduced so it lasts longer

EASY TO INSTALLLess than half the time to build vs a non-electric fence

ECONOMICALCosts less to build and maintain than a non-electric fence

1. Energizer (power) is connected to the fence and the ground.

2. Power is sent along the fence in pulses.

Importance of Earthing

Handy Hint

The 4-3-2-1 rule for earth stakes for permanent fencing

4 metres between earth stakes/rods3 earth stakes/rods minimum*2 metres minimum length of stakes/

rods in the ground1 wire connecting all earth stakes to

energizer earth terminal

* The earth system should ideally be located in continuously damp high mineral soil.

Eight out of ten problems are due to improper earthing.Setting up a good earthing system is often overlooked but it’s a critical part of your electric fence system, as important as the wires and even the Energizer.

It’s how the power flows from the energizer, to the fence, through the animal and back through the ground to the energizer. Without good clean earth rods in sufficient size and number the ground connection doesn’t work and the shock will not reach the animal.

EarthingLive Fence

Importance of Earthing

EarthingLive Fence

All Live Wire System

Earth Return Wire System

Earthing for drier regions The fence configurations shown in this brochure all use an All Live Wire System. This is recommended for wetter regions that are green all year around.

If you live in dry conditions where the ground struggles to conduct enough power to create an effective shock use an Earth Return Wire System. Use both live and earth wires on the fence itself to create the shock when the animal touches them at the same Earth Return. Below is an example of Earth Return permanent fence system for cattle.

Hot Tips

G602000

On fences next to public access ways, Warning Signs must be fitted at least every 90m to the fence.

Safety

A Fence Fault Finder is an invaluable tool for locating shorts on the electric fence.

G50900

G60760

Quick and Easy Fault Finding / Fixing

Use a Cut Out Switch to turn off power to sections of fence for isolating faults and making repairs.

G64800

Attaching a Lightening Diverter to your system helps prevent Energizer damage during lightning strikes.

Protect your Energizer

In areas where there is likelihood of small children unaware of electric fencing, Gallagher recommends use of a small energizer (less than 0.5 Stored Joules) or connecting that section of fence through an Energy Limiter. G56110
