La MUSIQUE PURE ET SIMPLE, voilà ce à quoi nous vous convions pour notre saison 2017-2018.
La programmation de cette saison a été élaborée par un nouveau comité artistique formé de sept mélomanes passionnés de musique de chambre. Nous sommes particulièrement fiers d’accueillir une première fois au Canada le réputé ensemble de musique baroque L’Arpeggiata, sous la direction de Christina Pluhar. Il présentera deux concerts en octobre: Mediterraneo et La Lyra d’Orfeo. Suivront la soprano américaine Dawn Upshaw en récital avec le Brentano Quartet ainsi que le pianiste Marc-André Hamelin qui sera accompagné par le Pacifica Quartet. À cette occasion, il nous offrira une de ses nouvelles compositions: Quintette pour cordes et piano. Bien entendu, vous retrouverez la série Les Récitals en collaboration avec l’OSM. Trois pianistes de renom: Mikhail Pletnev, Maurizio Pollini et Yuja Wang. Aussi, nos concerts-midis Les Mélodînes, qui seront répartis tout au long de la saison cette année, à la salle Claude-Léveillée de la Place des arts.
La série Harmonie (anciennement Dominica) à la salle Bourgie, maintient sa collaboration avec les talents les plus prometteurs du Marlboro Music Festival du Vermont et recevra également l’Orchestre de chambre McGill avec, comme invités, le pianiste Serhiy Salov et la violoniste Bomsori Kim, tous deux lauréats du Concours musical international de Montréal au cours des dernières années.
Pour une 69e saison, Pro Musica poursuit sa mission d’offrir à son fidèle public le meilleur de la musique de chambre et tient à vous remercier chaleureusement de votre présence sans laquelle nous ne pourrions continuer d’exister. Bonne saison!

PURE AND SIMPLE MUSIC, this is what you’re invited to for our 2017-2018 season.
The program for this season was drawn up by a new artistic committee composed of seven music lovers who are passionate about chamber music. We are particularly proud to welcome the renowned baroque music ensemble L’Arpeggiata, led by Christina Pluhar, to Canada for the first time. They will present two concerts in October: Mediterraneo and La Lyra d’Orfeo. Next to come will be American soprano Dawn Upshaw in recital with the Brentano Quartet and pianist Marc-André Hamelin, accompanied by the Pacifica Quartet. On this occasion, they will perform one of Hamelin’s new compositions: Quintet for strings and piano. Of course, you will rediscover the Recitals series in collaboration with the OSM. Three renowned pianists: Mikhail Pletnev, Maurizio Pollini and Yuja Wang. Also, our Les Mélodînes lunchtime concerts, which will be spread throughout the season this year, will be held at the Salle Claude-Léveillée at Place des arts.
The Harmonie series (formerly Dominica) at Salle Bourgie, maintains its collaboration with the most promising talents of the Marlboro Music Festival of Vermont and will also welcome the McGill Chamber Orchestra with guest pianist Serhiy Salov and violinist Bomsori Kim, both recent winners of the Montreal International Music Competition.
For a 69th season, Pro Musica continues its mission of offering its loyal audience the best of chamber music and would like to cordially thank you for your attendance without which we could not continue to exist. Have a great season!

L’ARPEGGIATA - MEDITERRANEO
Traverser la Méditerranée en musique, être hypnotisé par l’onde, sillonner les confins du bassin de notre civilisation, entendre le sable crépiter à l’écoute des tarentelles, chantées en grec comme on le faisait en Calabre et en Sicile dans les villages gréco-albanais à l’époque baroque… C’est une croisière que vous proposent Christina Pluhar et l’Arpeggiata; vous naviguerez des côtes grecques et italiennes en Espagne, bercés par les vagues et le dialogue enchanteur des chants de la tradition méditerranéenne avec de la musique baroque italienne et espagnole du 17e siècle.
Crossing the Mediterranean Sea in music, mesmerised by the sound waves, travelling to the confines of the birth of our civilization, to hear the sand crackling as you listen to the tarantellas, sung in Greek as they did in Calabria and Sicily in the Greco- Albanian villages of the baroque period... Such is the journey that Christina Pluhar and l’Arpeggiata propose; sail along the shores of the Greek and Italian coasts to Spain, cradled by the waves and the enchanting dialogue between traditional songs of the Mediterranean region and Italian and Spanish baroque music from the 17th century.

Aucun compositeur d’Italie ne connut tant de succès en France durant le 17e siècle que Luigi Rossi, compositeur, harpiste, luthiste, chanteur et organiste. Ce projet de l’Arpeggiata est basé sur deux manuscrits précieux, qui sont conservés à la Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris. Ils contiennent une centaine de cantates italiennes, la plupart composées par Luigi Rossi. Ces deux livres portent l’emblème de la famille Barberini et témoignent de l’exécution de la musique vocale italienne par des chanteurs italiens et français. Le mécénat musical du cardinal Mazarin est l’un des faits saillants d’une ambitieuse politique qui touchait tous les arts et visait à instaurer une culture musicale italienne en France.
No other Italian composer was as successful in France during the 17th century than Luigi Rossi, composer, harpist, lute player, singer and organist. This Arpeggiata’s project is based on two precious manuscripts kept at the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris. They contain about a hundred Italian cantatas, mostly composed by Luigi Rossi. These two books are decorated with the emblem of the Barberini family, and witness the performance of Italian vocal music by Italian and French singers. The musical patronage of Cardinal Mazarin is one of the highlights of an ambitious policy that touched all the arts and aimed at bringing the Italian taste to France.

Marc-André Hamelin is ranked among the elite of world pianists for his unrivalled blend of musicianship and virtuosity in the great works of the established repertoire, as well as for his intrepid exploration of the neglected music of the 19th and 20th centuries. / Formed in 1994 and recognized for its virtuosity, exuberant performance style and often-daring repertory choices, the Pacifica Quartet has gained international stature, over the past two decades, as one of the finest chamber ensembles performing today.

Chaque année depuis déjà plus d’une cinquantaine d’années, le réputé Marlboro Music Festival du Vermont prolonge ses activités en organisant une tournée mettant en vedette ses jeunes talents les plus prometteurs. Au fil des ans, ces concerts ont fait connaître au public américain et canadien des figures musicales de renom telles que Jean-Guihen Queyras, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell et András Schiff, pour n’en nommer que quelques-uns. Une occasion unique de découvrir de nouveaux talents.

For over fifty years, the reputable Marlboro Music Festival of Vermont has organized an annual tour featuring its season’s most promising young talents. Marlboro has introduced many renowned musicians to the North American public over the years, including Jean-Guihen Queyras, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell and András Schiff, to name but a few. Lauréat du Prix d’improvisation Richard Lupien (CMIM) en 2014 et Premier Prix du Concours musical international de Montréal en 2004, l’ukrainien Serhiy Salov est maintenant un habitué des scènes montréalaises. Pour sa part, la sud-coréenne Bomsori Kim remporta le Deuxième prix ainsi que le Prix du public au CMIM 2016. Avec la collaboration de Boris Brott et de l’Orchestre de chambre McGill, ils nous réservent une soirée mémorable.

Winner of the Richard Lupien Improvization Prize (CMIM) in 2014 and First Prize at the 2004 Concours musical international de Montréal, the Ukrainian Serhiy Salov is a regular of the Montreal stages. For its part, South Korea’s Bomsori Kim won the Second Prize as well as the Audience Award at CMIM 2016. With Boris Brott and the McGill Chamber Orchestra, a truly memorable evening to come.

Artiste en résidence à l’OSM cette saison, le grand pianiste russe Mikhaïl Pletnev offre un récital de piano rendant hommage à Rachmaninov pour commémorer le 75e anniversaire de son décès.
Artist-in-residence with the OSM this season, the renowned Russian pianist Mikhaïl Pletnev performs a piano recital that pays homage to Rachmaninoff in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of his death.

Fort de 50 ans de carrière de virtuose, le célèbre pianiste Maurizio Pollini s’arrête à Montréal. Sa dernière visite à l’OSM remontant à près de 30 ans, ce récital est sans doute l’un des incontournables de la saison!
Acclaimed pianist Maurizio Pollini has enjoyed a 50-year virtuoso career and now returns to Montréal. His last appearance with the OSM dates back nearly 30 years, so this will, without question, be one of the not-to-be-missed recitals of the season!
