MASTER BY COURSEWORKGraduate Programmes by coursework are offered to the local and international students that fulfil admission requirements as specified by respective programme. Students enrolled in this programme are required to fulfil forty-four (44) credits comprising coursework, Postgraduate Colloquium Project and a dissertation. The dissertation is submitted at the end of the programme. In some programmes, a comprehensive examination is required. To date, FTKKI has four (4) master by coursework programmes which are Master of Computer Science, Master of Information Technology, Master of Mathematics and Master of Statistics in Marine Science.

PROGRAMME EDUCATION OBJECTIVES:

• Knowledgeable in Computer Science and able to use technical and scientific skills for any computing solution;

• Able to work professionally, ethically and keep abreast of the development of computer science and technology by practicing lifelong learning;

• Sensitive to social issues and responsibilities, and able to work individually or in teams; and

• Able to communicate effectively and willingly take on the leader role with the advanced knowledge of Computer Science in various disciplines.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (Software Engineering) or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (Informatics Maritime) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 from UMT; OR

• Bachelor’s degree with Honours in related field with a good grade, OR CGPA of 2.75/4.00 and above; from higher institution recognized by the Senate; OR

• Candidate that obtained minimum CGPA 2.50 also qualify if they possesses minimum five (5) years’ work experiences in the related field; OR

• Any other academic qualifications equivalent to Bachelor Degree and possesses related professional experiences recognized by the Senate; OR

• International candidate that possesses qualifications equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science recognized by the Senate.

• English Requirement (international candidates); TOEFL with minimum score 550; OR IELTS with minimum band 6.0.

• International students that obtained academic qualification from Malaysia public higher institution that recognized by Senate are excluded from English qualification.

MASTER OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

PROGRAMME EDUCATION OBJECTIVES:

• Able to use scientific and critical thinking skills to meet the needs of university thrusts and industry;

• Able to communicate and aware of social responsibility to keep abreast of current information technology development;

• Able to apply information technology skills with professionalism and ethical values to improve quality and productivity in the workplace; and

• Have high leadership qualities and able to adapt current technologies for lifelong learning.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT:

• Bachelor’s Degree in various fields from UMT with minimum CGPA of 2.75; or equivalent qualifications from UMT or any other academic qualifications from UMT or other higher institutions that recognized by the UMT’s Senate; OR

• Bachelor’s Degree in related fields with minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent qualifications, and possesses five (5) years’ work experiences that recognized by the UMT’s Senate; OR

• Any other academic qualifications equivalent to Bachelor Degree and possesses related professional experiences recognized by the Senate; OR

• International candidate that possesses qualifications equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree or related professional experience recognized that recognized by the Senate.

PROGRAMME EDUCATION OBJECTIVES:

• Knowledgeable in advanced mathematical sciences and able to think critically for any problem in the field of oceanography;

• Able to solve problems with the aid of computer programming, in teams or individually;

• Able to be an ethical, competitive and confident individual in implementing lifelong learning to continuously enhance self-reliance; and

• Able to express opinions effectively and able to lead in an organization.ENTRY

• Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Computational Mathematics) or Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Financial Mathematics) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 from UMT; OR minimum CGPA 2.50 + minimum five (5) years’ work experiences.

MASTER OF STATISTICS IN MARINE SCIENCE

PROGRAMME EDUCATION OBJECTIVES:

• Knowledgeable in advanced statistics and able to practice scientific skills and critical thinking to solve problems in marine science;

• Able to apply statistical methods and techniques practically to solve problems in the field of marine science, individually or in a team;

• Able to practice integrity, responsibility, ethics, positive attitude and lifelong learning to enhance self-esteem; and

• Able to deliver the results of statistical analyses effectively and able to lead in an organization to increase productivity. ENTRY REQUIREMENT:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Statistics) recognized by UMT’S Senate with a minimum CGPA of 2.75; OR minimum CGPA 2.50 + minimum five (5) years’ work experiences.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Computational Mathematics) or Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Financial Mathematics) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 from UMT; OR minimum CGPA 2.50 + minimum five (5) years’ work experiences.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Science which equivalent to Parts (i) and (ii) with minimum CGPA of 2.75 from UMT or any other higher institutions recognized by the Senate; OR minimum CGPA 2.50 + minimum five (5) years’ work experiences.

MASTER BY RESEARCH AND DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD)

GRADUATE PROGRAMMES UNDER THIS STRUCTURE ARE FOR BOTH MASTERS AND DOCTORATE WITH RESEARCH AS THE MAJOR REQUIREMENT FOR ATTAINING THE DEGREES. WHILE THERE IS NO SPECIFIC NUMBER OF CREDITS REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION, STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ENROL IN SOME COURSES TO STRENGTHEN THEIR KNOWLEDGE BASE. AT THE END OF THE PROGRAMME, CANDIDATES ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT A THESIS TO THE EXAMINATION COMMITTEE.

Master of Science (M.Sc.)1) Bachelor's degree in related field

of studies with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent from UMT or any other higher institutions recognized by the Senate; OR

2) Bachelor's degree in a related field with a CGPA below 2.75 or equivalent qualification and possesses evidence of relevant and adequate research or work experience (one (1) year working experience equivalent to 0.1 point); OR

3) Any other academic qualification in a related field and possesses evidence of adequate research or work experience recognized by the Senate.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)1) Master's degree from UMT or

any other higher institution recognized by the Senate; or

2) Any other qualification equivalent to a Master's Degree and possesses evidence of adequate research or work experience recognized by the Senate; or

3) Outstanding Master student from UMT who has been approved for conversion; or

4) First class Bachelor's Degree holder or an equivalent from UMT or any higher institution recognized by Senate.
