Job Details

Post: Television Studio Technician

Grade: Pay Scale Range Points: 12 – 17

Responsible to: Creative Director for Tempa

Responsible for: None

Key Purpose: To provide high level specialist support and maintenance to the Tempa

department with particular responsibilities to tempa.tv, the College’s tv

production company. To liaise with teaching and non-teaching staff as

necessary in order to ensure the effective delivery of operational and

technical support and maintenance of all tempa curriculum areas.

To assist teaching staff in the instruction and supervision of learners

providing in-classroom support, preparing teaching resources and

maintaining equipment as necessary. Provide general departmental

support as designated by the Creative Director, Head of BA1 Records,

Course Leaders and lecturing staff.

Specific Responsibilities

1. To provide comprehensive and high quality curriculum support within Tempa with

particular responsibilities for:

Maintenance and facilitating the operation of the television studio

Maintenance of video, photographic and curriculum resources including all

specialist equipment, the performance spaces and studios.

Uploading student work to course related Youtube and Facebook sites.

Providing in-class video recording and archiving of learner presentations.

Providing in-class technical demonstrations, and to support learners in their

development and safe working knowledge of photographic and video

production technology.

Maintaining an on-going archive of student work and events by digitally storing

student work and assisting staff in printing and mastering of student work.

Maintaining stock control systems for specialist equipment while complying with

all Health and Safety regulations to ensure the safe and proper use of such

equipment and related resources.

Maintaining the hardware dedicated to the digital media curriculum including

studio maintenance and basic maintenance of video & sound recording and

digital design production equipment.

Identifying damaged equipment and make arrangements for speedy repairs

and report ICT faults to Apple Support and track progress of jobs.

To assist in the preparation for public performances within College and in

external venues.

2. To coordinate the administration and arrangements for:

loans of small items of equipment associated with these specialist areas.

access to studios and resources whilst maintaining a safe and tidy working

environment.

the maintenance of registers for hardware, software and configuration

management.

maintaining notice boards and assisting in the promotion of activities.

assisting in the maintenance and uploading of material to Bladud & tempa.tv

social networking sites.

assisting with the production of events/showcases or any other internal or

external promotional activities.

3. To provide technical assistance and guidance to media producers on:

preparing and setting up for shows and events.

preparing and setting up for video production, publishing and photographic

sessions.

on-going archive of work and events by digitally storing student work and

assisting staff in printing and mastering of student work.

4. Health and Safety responsibilities:

To observe and keep aware of Health and Safety documentation and

procedures in line with College policy.

5. Safeguarding responsibilities:

documentation as required by the principal, college Management, the Corporation,

Government Departments and other external agencies.

General

Within the limitations set out in your contract, working hours are flexible and can be subject to

variation depending upon needs. They may, for example, include weekends and evenings. It

is expected that holiday entitlement should be taken at times convenient to the department.
