Possessive pronouns are words that take the place of nouns.

Possessive pronouns show who or what owns or possesses something.

Rules for Possessive Pronouns

• Use my, your, her, our, and their before nouns.

• Use mine, yours, hers, ours, and theirs alone.• His and its can be used both before nouns and

alone.• Do not use an apostrophe with a possessive

pronoun.

POSSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE

• Renee said, “My dogs like to swim.”• My is the possessive pronoun and

it takes the place of Renee.

POSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE

• I will show you the crowns that I own.• is changed to• I will show you mine.

POSSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE

• Your teacher is funny!• Your is the possessive pronoun and

it takes the place of the teacher’s name.

POSSESSIVE PRONOUN EXAMPLE

• Is that towel yours?• Yours is the possessive pronoun and

it takes the place of the person’s name you are asking the question to.
