Indonesia Design BuildIndonesia Design Build 1
Under the leadership of Frank C. Flury, thirteen students committed to building a small clinic for the ruralvillage of Jabung in Indonesia. The students fundraised the full budget for the building and traveled toIndonesia to build it with the guidance of a local foreman.
Indonesia Design BuildPlumbing System 2
All students had an equal opportunity to try every aspect of construction, however the design and constructionof the plumbing system ended up being an individual project. Above are field sketches depicting the processthe design went through. Cultural norms, availability of supplies, system robustness, and changing workingconditions were considered to evolve the design dynamically. On right are picture of the system in the process of construction.
Indonesia Design BuildConstruction Drawings 3
Because of the designbuild nature of the project a working set of construction drawings were created before construction began. These drawings were updated periodically by various team members as the project progressed.
Indonesia Design Build 4Independent and Group Projects
In addition to the design-build course, Frank Flury also offered an optional carpentry course.- I lead the team in that built most of the furniture for the clinic.- Locals conducted business on a bench I made as an independent study project.- Using hand tools, I lead a group of four built sawhorses. Later on I built a tool-shed to increase the entire team'swork efficiency.

Gary High Speed Rail 6Research Intensive Design
In 2015 SOM ran a cloud studio at IIT with the idea of connecting Chicago, Detroit, and Toronto with a HighSpeed Rail. In this research intensive studio, students split up to work on a station in each city this rail trackpasses through.
Research was to be presented in clear diagrams.
On the left, Gary, Indiana is divided into it's threemost significant regions. The project proposes using existing but underused infrastructure to relocate Gary'stransportation hub to a location where all these regions meet.
Amplify 7Acoustic Pavilion
I took one of three leadership roles in this eleven-person project. The pavilion is mostly wood with two steel frames. The two Bluetooth enabled Contact Speakers mounted on the inside can project can project sound clear-ly as far as 60 feet. QR codes on the inside take a listener through a musical journey through the neighborhood's history. The pavilion also functions as a small stage for music students and the built in Contact Speakers can provide a full orchestra backup for solo performers than desire it.
