PLAYBILLAN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER
®
FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO
Mary M. Barnes
Good day and thank you for attending this special Treasure Coast Luncheon, which celebrates Alzheimer’s Community Care’s 20th year of inception. Our passion for serving our most fragile and vulnerable population coping with the effects of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders on a daily basis, is most evident, and I personally am proudest of that fact.
“An Affair to Remember” is a major fundraiser to help our organization sustain, as well as expand, its services and resources. We recognize that we must embrace the escalation of new families affected at a higher percentage than in the past, with many patients being diagnosed at 60 years of age and younger. These families must not be isolated or alone when a physician says the dreaded words, “Your loved one is suffering with Alzheimer’s disease.” Denial is our enemy, and it is critical that Alzheimer’s Community Care overcomes that barrier. Today’s Luncheon, here at the beautiful Willoughby Golf Club, helps greatly in doing just that.
I wish to extend special appreciation to our compassionate and devoted Luncheon co-chairs, Gytha Von Aldenbruck and Rita May Wright. Gytha and Rita May have provided a vision for today’s Luncheon, and with the help of their invaluable committee, their tireless efforts have produced this special day that will leave a lasting benefit to our local families.
Our presenters today – Robert J. Gorman, Esq., a member of the Alzheimer’s Community Care Board of Directors; Karen Gilbert, our Vice President of Education & Quality Assurance; and Sue Shipper, a caregiver – have all been personally touched by a family member affected by Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder. They will speak to your heart, with a sense of hope as well.
This journey for our families could last two (2) to twenty (20) years, with the average being ten (10).
Your presence is a gift to our cause and is critical for our families who reside on the Treasure Coast. Our founders believed that a donation to our organization should go far, but not far away. So, I am extremely proud to tell you that Alzheimer’s Community Care’s 2015/16 independent financial audit reflects that for every dollar raised, 92 cents goes directly to the services and resources that benefit our families.
Thank you for celebrating with us today.Yours Truly,Mary M. Barnes

Alzheimer’s Community Care is so thankful for the many donors who help support the services and resources we provide to our families. Every time we receive a donation, we promptly
respond with a “thank you” letter to the donor. We also send a separate card to the caregiver, informing them of the individual who has donated in memory
of their loved one.
The beautiful card that the caregiver receives is entitled “Sunrise.” It is based on a painting by Sophia P., who attended our Specialized Day Center in Boca Raton. As it reads on the back of the card, “One night her husband, Daniel, went with her to a lake and watched the sunrise.
Daniel also took her to the top of the Sears Tower to see the sunrise. Everything is Daniel, she is so in love.”
Thank you, Sophia.
