If you are having trouble finding a location to do your internship, you may want to schedule a time to meet with a career counselor from Career and Internship Services (612-624-2710) for advice on searching for an internship. It is not the responsibility of the instructor for this course to place students in internship positions. Internships may be paid or unpaid. Some funding and grant opportunities are available for students in unpaid internships at: www.careerhelp.umn.edu/internshipfunding

After identifying a potential internship, students must first consult with their faculty advisor to make sure their internship qualifies for academic credit. Internships should have 250 hours of working time at a minimum (typical summer internship experiences will be 400 hours or more). More information about this course and internships can be found in the syllabus on the Plant Science major website on the internship page. HORT 4096W can be taken by students from any CFANS major, and meets a requirement in both Plant Science and Food Systems. This course also satisfies the CFANS Experiential Learning requirement. You can only take HORT 4096W one time; for additional internships, you can take HORT 4096 using this same internship approval process (see HORT 4096 Instructions below).
