It is my pleasure to introduce you with one of the youngest and vibrant Technological Institute in Eastern India, Indian Institute of Information Technology, kalyani, West Bengal. IIIT, Kalyani has been set up by MHRD (Government of India), Government of West Bengal and Industry Partners on a N-PPP basis. Additionally Government of West Bengal has lent support to the institute by granting 50 acres of land for setting up the campus The Institute is located in the calm, peaceful, serene city of Kalyani which is within an hour’s drive from the bustling metropolitan city of Kolkata.The major objective of IIIT, Kalyani is to set up a model of Education which can produce best-in-class human resources in IT and harnessing the multidimensional facets of IT in various domains. The institute will evolve into a world-class academic institution with the highest quality of Education and Research Facilities. Established in the year 2014 the ``Newness’’ factor of IIIT-Kalyani allows us to be constantly dynamic in our curriculum. We enjoy the flexibility to quickly respond to these rapidly changing global socio-economic conditions and can efficiently adapt the best practices of leading Technical institutes. IIIT Kalyani was established in 2014 with a mission to bridge the gap between education, research and industries. It offers programme of B.Tech. The Schools at IIIT Kalyani are equipped with state of the art equipment/facilities/laboratories and its faculty members are involved in a broad range of research areas and industrial consultancy.The professors are well experienced. This experience includes an emphasis on the technical knowledge, communication, teamwork and life-long learning skills in which graduates need to excel at the workplace and in the society in general real life engineering problems.

To highlight about student-industry interaction, at the end of 3rd year students from undergraduate engineering streams go for a summer internship as a part of the course curriculum. This summer internship programme helps the industries to harness our talents. It is my pleasure to introduce TPC which looks after the placement activities of the students at IIIT Kalyani. We have the required facilites to conduct placement sessions, video conferencing, etc. to organize campus placement activities. We provide all the possible support and guidance to the students for this purpose. I invite esteemed organizations to visit our campus for the recruitment. Your visit shall provide a platform to utilize the technical knowledge and motivated young talent of our students establishing a synergetic interface. Besides I also invite the companies to take our third year undergraduate students for summer training/internship.

In 2014, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Govt. of India, Govt. of W.B. and Industry Partners, viz; Coal India Limited, Rolta Foundation and Webel for setting up of IIIT Kalyani under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Under the guidance of the Mentor Director Prof. Partha P. Chakrabarti (Director IIT-KGP), Executive Director Prof. Anupam Basu (Director NIT-DGP) and number of industry representatives.The institute has designed a 4-year B. Tech programme CSE along with the skill set required for solving complex problems, faced by the industry in 21st Century. The Institute is backed by young dynamic PhD faculty members coming out of national institutes of India. The R&D is growing up day-by-day with the Professors and Students.With the NASSCOM Head of Eastern Region, FICCI & CII associated with this IIIT, the Institute will try to provide internship to the students in the major industries of the country. The Industry Partners are from Coal India Limited, Rolta Foundation & JSW Steel Limited. The IIIT Kalyani looks forward to receive enormous support and help from the major industries of India.It is connected with IT Companies such as Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, IBM, Capegemini. In addition the institute also undertakes joint programs with industry to facilitate collaboration with the industry. All students of 1st batch (2014-2018) were offered internships in reputed organizations like, IISc Bangalore, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, C-DAC Kolkata, C-DAC Pune, VECC Kolkata, SNLTR Kolkata, SkyBits Technologies Pvt. The academic structure of IIIT Kalyani exhibits the diversity, comprehensiveness, and depth befitting an institution of its age and stature. The programme/course offered at the institute have the flexibility to evolve and change in response to new requirements. They serve the dual purpose of building a solid foundation of knowledge and of enhancing confidence, creativity and innovation in its students.

A unique attribute of IIIT Kalyani’s academic structure is the autonomy enjoyed by the faculty in designing and structuring their curriculum and courses . A favourable student-teacher ratio ensures productive, personal contact between the student and the teacher.

Finally, credit-based academic programmes offer flexibility to students to progress at their own pace. This system ensures an academic programme which is dynamic and constantly evolving and which reflects the institute’s commitment to stay in tune with the expanding frontiers of knowledge worldwide. The institute provides high quality of education, and it ensures that its students are also of exceptionally high calibre. Admission to IIIT Kalyani is enabled through Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) only for the undergraduate programme.

IIIT Kalyani’s B.Tech. programme admits 130 students for only one of its discipline, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). Seats are filled up through Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) after qualifying JEE (Main) examination administered by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Admission to the Ph.D. Programme of the Institute will normally take place in January and July every year. Advertisements will be issued in September/October for the even semester (January - June) and February-March for the odd semester (July - December).Admission to all categories of students is granted on the basis of admission test followed by interview to be held usually during the month of December and May - July every year.

EligibilityThe details of the eligibility criteria (i.e., minimum qualifications and experience) for admission to various Ph.D. programmes are given in this appendix. The DRC reviews the same for admission to the Ph.D. programme from time to time. Relaxation in academic qualification for reserved categories of students is as per Government of India guidelines.

CAMPUSThe Govt. of West Bengal has lent support to the institute by granting 50 acres of land for setting up the Campus. While construction has been started in the land provided, the institute is presently running from the temporary campus at Webel IT Park, Kalyani. This building is well connected by road (Kalyani - Barrackpore Expressway), as well as rail ( Kalyani railway station 5.1 km distance).

SEMINARS

FACILITIESThe institute provides accommodation for outstation students on payment basis in rented apartments. Scheduled bus services are provided to aid students commute between hostel and the campus. Medical facilities in case of emergencies are facilitated by the institute. There is arrangement with JNMH at Kalyani for medical emergencies.

Festivals

GYMKHANAStudent activity centre in IIIT Kalyani is the hub of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities ranging from sports to socio-cultural. It has a student body, consisting of members elected through annual campus elections. It aims at promoting a culture of sportsmanship and teamwork in the students by providing them with wonderful facilities. Gymkhana hosts a wide variety of societies to promote their hobbies and interests of the students. The societies include Udaan (literary), Semblance (dramatic), Groovz (dance), FMC (film and media), Algoholic(technical) and Symphony(music).

Model United NationsModel United Nations, or simply an MUN, is a competing simulation or a conference through which students, by simulating bodies of the United Nations, learn about diplomacy, effective communication, international relations and politics, and the universe of the UN in general. First MUN conference was held in april 2018 to discuss the ongoing effects of Israeli- Palestine conflict. A platform for IIIT Kalyani students to learn the political debating so that we will be the representatives of our country and our society.

INTER IIIT SPORTS MEETThis is the most prestigious event which is held in December among

all the IIIT ‘s .IIIT kalyani have secured various medals in the event of 100m hurdle ,chess,

shotput by showing their glorifying talents.
