NEW ZEALAND BUILDING CODE CLAUSE G6

OBJECTIVE:

G6.1 The objective of this provision is to safeguard people from illness or loss of amenity as a result of undue noise being transmitted between abutting occupancies.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIERMENT:

G6.2 Building Elements which are commmon between occupancies, shall be constructed to prevent undue noise transimssion from other occupancies or common spaces, to the habitable spaces of household units.

1.0.1 Sound transmission through building elements, shall be minimised by using one or more of the following construction techniques:

(a) Physical separation of building elements comprising each face of any wall, floor or ceiling assembly which is common to two or more occupied spaces.

(b) Use of noise control building elements.

(c) Avoidance of rigid service connections (e.g. in plumbing) where the reticulation passes through noise control building elements separating different occupancies.

(d) Making the noise control installation airtight by sealing all joints between building elements, and around penetrations and service fittings.

NEW ZEALAND BUILDING CODE CLAUSE H1

H1.3.4 Systems for the heating, storage, or distribution of hot water to and from sanitary fixtures or sanitary appliances must, having regard to the energy source used,—

(a) limit the energy lost in the heating process; and

(b) be constructed to limit heat losses from storage vessels and from distribution systems; and

(c) be constructed to facilitate the efficient use of hot water.

K-VALUES

K-values indicate a materials ability to conduct heat. Insulation materials generally have a low K-value as this indicates poor thermal conductive properties not allowing heat energy to pass through.

R-VALUES

R-value is a rating which measures the thermal resistance/properties of a material (K-value) with consideration to the materials thickness. A higher R-value indicates a better insualtor.

4-ZERO

Allproof 4-Zero pipe insulation has been developed to meet the demanding standards of commercial hot and cold water reticulating systems. With excellent themal insulation performance, 4-Zero provides the energy retention properties required by current building specifications.

Aluminium foil faced 4-Zero, meets the needs of the specifier that requires a high performing product while offering optimum resistance to fire. This product gives a “zero” rating when tested in accordance with AS/NZS1530.3 “early fire hazard properties of materials”.

With the added benefit of being UV Stable for a minimum of five years it makes an excellent product of choice.

Allproof Pipe Sleeve is designed to offer protection to pipework from ground movement. It is manufactured from closed cell low density polyethylene foam and comes in a range of sizes.

Allproof Pipe Sleeve has excellent compression and recovery properties.

ACOUSTIC PIPE LAGGINGNuWrap 5 For noisy pipes in buildings, NuWrap 5 is the effective and easy-to-install sound lagging solution. Also suitable for ducting and ventilation fans, it is supplied with 4-Zero foil facing as standard. Designed to meet the requirements of the building code, NuWrap 5 is available in rolls and as pre-cut ‘fittings’ for quick and easy installation. NuWrap 5 Acoustic Pipe Lagging combines acoustic convoluted open cell foam laminated to NuWave acoustic barrier.

To achieve the same results without NuWrap 5 the installation requires two layers of 13mm plasterboard to each side of 76mm steel studs with cavity infill of 50mm, 10kg/m3 glasswool.

INSTALLATION: > Ensure that all pipework has been pressure tested, clean, and no leakage detected.

> Wrap product around pipe with joins facing downwards and a 50mm overlap wherever possible.

> Use 72mm self adhesive foil tape along longitudinal joints and tape a band around the circumference at butt joins and between joints.

> There should be a taped band or cable tie around pipe at approximately every 450-500mm spacing

> There must not be any gaps between the NuWrap 5 joints. The smallest gap can result in loss of performance of the product.
