I took my dad to the mall theother day to buy some new shoes(he is 76). We decided to grab a biteat the food court.

I noticed he was watching ateenager sitting next to him.

The teenager had spiked hair inall different colors - green, red, orange, and blue.

A s much as I love to go“picking” it wasn’t untilrecently I felt compelled to “pick” through my own

family’s antique trunk of photographs. This particular photographreminded me of one of the stories my grandmother would rarelyshare. One of my personal favorites being the story of my dadbeing mistaken for the LINDBERGH BABY!

According to my grandmother and my father, the two traveledtogether by train from Eastern North Carolina to Washington DCon business. My grandfather was home with complications relatedto diabetes and could not travel.

After arriving at the train station in DC they became separatedfrom each other in the crowd. Two police officers noticed my dadwas alone and saw how similar he looked to the missing son ofCharles Lindbergh. When they asked him his name, he looked upat the officers and replied “Charles!”

Lindbergh kidnappingFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The kidnapping of CharlesAugustus Lindbergh, Jr., theeldest son of aviator CharlesLindbergh and Anne MorrowLindbergh, was one of the mosthighly publicized crimes of the20th century. The 20-month-oldtoddler was abducted from hisfamily home in East Amwell,New Jersey, on the evening ofMarch 1, 1932.[2] Over twomonths later, on May 12, 1932,his body was discovered a shortdistance from the Lindberghs'home in neighboring HopewellTownship.[3]

My dad’s only memory wasthe officers were “nice & funny”and gave him candy. Grannyfound him with the police officersand thanked them for finding herson, not yet realizing the fullscope of the situation at hand.Granny never gave a lot of detailswhen recalling this particularevent, other than it was a “nui-sance” and that reclaiming her sonwas “swift”. I can only imagine!

My grandmother was born inthe 1880’s in eastern North Caro-lina, became a school teacher in aone-room schoolhouse beforemarrying my grandfather. My dadwas the youngest of four boys, andborn during the beginning of thedepression. By the time I was

born, she was in her mid-seventiesand that particular day in DC hadbecome only one of many fondmemories.

And now it’s one of mine.

My wonderful father sent me this email with a bunch of old photos but this one in par-ticular really caught my eye since its caption indicated this was a young woman workingin the late 1920’s on a Florida alligator farm. Now, that must’ve been one heckuva’ joband one of the perks was an excellent physical workout.
