Phoneme- the smallest unit of sound in a word

Grapheme- What we write to represent a

sound/phoneme- for some phonemes this could be more than one letter.

Blending-Children need to be able to hear the separate sounds in a word and then blend them together to say the whole word.

Segmenting-Children need to be able to hear a whole word and

say every sound that they hear.

Diagraph- Two letters that make one sound.

Trigraph- Three letters that make one sound.

• uses a review, teach, practice and apply method• this is then continued into the classroom activities within
