    Equipment Approval InormationYour telephone equipment is approved or connection to the Public SwitchedTelephone Network and is in compliance with parts 15 and 68, FCC Rules andRegulations and the Technical Requirements or Telephone Terminal Equipment

    published by ACTA.1 Notifcation to the Local Telephone Company

    On the bottom o this equipment is a label indicating, among other inormation,the US number and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) or the equipment. Youmust, upon request, provide this inormation to your telephone company.

    The REN is useul in determining the number o devices you may connect toyour telephone line and still have all o these devices ring when your telephonenumber is called. In most (but not all) areas, the sum o the RENs o all devicesconnected to one line should not exceed 5. To be certain o the number odevices you may connect to your line as determined by the REN, you shouldcontact your local telephone company.A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises wiringand telephone network must comply with the applicable FCC Part 68 rulesand requirements adopted by the ACTA. A compliant telephone cord andmodular plug is provided with this product. It is designed to be connected to acompatible modular jack that is also compliant. See installation instructions ordetails.

    Notes

    This equipment may not be used on coin service provided by the telephone

    company. Party lines are subject to state taris, and thereore, you may not be able to use

    your own telephone equipment i you are on a party line. Check with your localtelephone company.

    US Number is located on the cabinet bottom.

    REN Number is located on the cabinet bottom.

    Notice must be given to the telephone company upon permanentdisconnection o your telephone rom your line.

    I your home has specially wired alarm equipment connected to the telephoneline, ensure the installation o this product does not disable your alarmequipment. I you have questions about what will disable alarm equipment,consult your telephone company or a qualifed installer.

    2 Rights o the Telephone Company

    Should your equipment cause trouble on your line which may harm thetelephone network, the telephone company shall, where practicable, notiyyou that temporary discontinuance o service may be required. Where priornotice is not practicable and the circumstances warrant such action, thetelephone company may temporarily discontinue service immediately. In case

    o such temporary discontinuance, the telephone company must: (1) promptlynotiy you o such temporary discontinuance; () aord you the opportunity tocorrect the situation; and (3) inorm you o your right to bring a complaint to theCommission pursuant to procedures set orth in Subpart E o Part 68, FCC Rulesand Regulations.

    InstallationDigital Security SystemYour cordless phone uses a digital security system to protect against alse

    ringing, unauthorized access, and charges to your phone line.INSTALLATION NOTE: Some cordless telephones operateat requencies that may cause or receive intererencewith nearby TVs, microwave ovens, and VCRs. To minimizeor prevent such intererence, the base o the cordlesstelephone should not be placed near or on top o a TV,microwave ovens, or VCR. I such intererence continues,move the cordless telephone arther away rom these

    appliances.

    Certain other communications devices may also usethe 5.8 GHz requency or communication, and, i notproperly set, these devices may interere with eachother and/or your new telephone. I you are concernedwith intererence, please reer to the owners manual orthese devices on how to properly set channels to avoidintererence. Typical devices that may use the 5.8 GHzrequency or communication include wireless audio/videosenders, wireless computer networks, multi-handsetcordless telephone systems, and some long-range cordlesstelephone systems.

    Important Installation Guidelines Avoid sources o noise and heat, such as motors, uorescent lighting,

    microwave ovens, heating appliances and direct sunlight.

    Avoid areas o excessive dust, moisture and low temperature.

    Avoid other cordless telephones or personal computers.

    Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.

    Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack isspecifcally designed or wet locations.

    Never touch non-insulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the

    telephone line has been disconnected at the network interace. Use caution when installing or modiying telephone lines.

    Installing the PhoneInstalling the Handset Battery

    NOTE: You must connect the handset battery beore using

    the cordless handsets.CAUTION: To reduce the risk o fre or personalinjury, use only the Thomson Inc. approved Nickel-metal Hydride battery (Ni-MH) model 5-2660, which iscompatible with this unit.

    1. Locate battery and battery door which are packaged together inside aplastic bag and are separate rom the handset.

    . Locate the battery compartment on the back o the handset.3. Plug the battery pack cord into the jack inside the compartment.

    NOTE: It is important to maintain the polarity (black andred wires) to the jack inside the compartment. To ensureproper battery installation, the connector is keyed and can beinserted only one way.

    4. Insert the battery pack.

    5. Close the battery compartment by pushing the door up until it snapsinto place.

    Extra Charging Cradle1. Plug the AC power converter o the extra charging cradle into the

    electrical outlet.

    . Place the handset in the extra charging cradle. The charge indicatorturns on, veriying the battery is charging.

    Allow handset to charge or 16 hours prior to frst use. I you do notproperly charge the handset, battery perormance is compromised.

    RegistrationYOU MUST REGISTER THE HANDSET TO THE MAIN BASE BEFORE USE!

    Ater the optional handset has charged or 16 hours on the extra charger,

    HANDSET NEEDS REGISTRATION shows in the display.1. Press the SELECT button. HOLD BASE PAGE WAIT FOR BEEPshows

    in the display. (Your handset should be held near the base duringregistration process.)

    . Press and hold the page button on the base unit until you hear a tone atthe handset. HANDSET X REGISTERED shows in the handset display,whereXis the handset number. You may now name your handset.Reer to section: "Handset Name."

    Programming the TelephoneThe handset menu gives you access to all o the built-in eatures. Pressthe MENU button to display the frst menu PHONE BOOK, and press6and5 buttons to navigate to the desired menu option. Press the SELECTbutton to activate a menu option. For details on programming, reer tothe applicable section.

    During programming, you may press the *EXIT button at any time to exit

    the menu and keep the previous setting.

    PHONE BOOK Enter and retrieve up to 50 names andphone numbers, each can be assigned adistinctive ringer tone and image.

    ROOM MONITOR Allows you to monitor any room in yourhouse with the accessory handsets.

    INTERCOM Talk between handsets or use to pageeach other.

    ANSWERER Remotely access the answering system toadjust the rings to answer, security code

    and new message alert settings.

    CALL RECORDS Review Caller ID data; select and dial romthe Caller ID data or rom the Redial listwhich contains the last 3 phone numbersdialed.

    SOUND SETTING Record ringer tone rom microphone,headset or any audio player; select main

    ringer tone or set key tone.

    PHONE SETTING Set display language, set area code,register the handset to the base unit ,

    name the handset , deregister thehandset or reset to deault setting.

    DISPLAY SETTING Choose a preset or downloaded image tobe wallpaper o the idle display, set thecontrast and color scheme.

    Phone SettingThere are seven programmable menus available: Language, Area Code,Intercom Auto Answer, Handset Name, Registration, Deregistration andDeault Setting.

    1. Make sure your phone is OFF (not in talkmode).

    . Press the MENU button and use the6 or5button to scroll to PHONE SETTING.

    3. Press the SELECT button to enter the menu.

    Language

    This menu allows you to change the language o the display prompts.From the PHONE SETTING menu;

    4. Press the SELECT button to save yourselection. You will hear a confrmation tone.

    Area CodeI you enter your local 3-digit area code in the area code menu, your localarea code does not display on the Caller ID (CID) list . Instead, you only seethe local 7-digit number. Calls received rom outside your local area codewill display the ull 10-digits.From the PHONE SETTING menu;

    1. Use the6 or5 button to scroll to SETAREA CODE.

    . Press the SELECT button to enter the menu.

    3. Use the number keys to enter your 3 digitarea code. - - - is the deault setting.

    Handset NameThis menu allows you to enter a name or the handset, which displays onthe idle screen.From the PHONE SETTING menu;

    3. Use the number keys to enter a name (up to

    15 characters). More than one letter is storedin each o the number keys. For example, toenter Bill Smith, press the key twice or theletter B. Press the 4 key 3 times or the letterI. Press the 5 key 3 times or the letter L. Waitor 1 second, press the 5 key 3 times or thesecond letter L, and press the 1 key to inserta space between the frst and last name.

    Press the 7 key 4 times or the letter S; pressthe 6 key once or the letter M; press the 4key 3 times or the letter I. Press the 8 keyor the letter T; press the 4 key twice or theletter H.

    4. Press the SELECT button to save yourselection. You will hear a confrmation tone.

    NOTE: I you make a mistake, use the FLASH/DELETE buttonto backspace and delete one character at a time.

    DeregistrationDeregistration cancels registration. During the deregistration process,keep the handset near the base.From the PHONE SETTING menu;

    1. Use the6 or5 button to scroll toDEREGISTRATION.

    . Press the SELECT button to enter the menu.

    3. Use the6 or5 button to scroll to NO orYES. The deault is NO.

    WARNING: It is not recommended that a handset bederegistered unless absolutely necessary because once ahandset is deregistered, that handsets telephone eaturescannot be used until the handset is re-registered.

    7. I you select YES, press the SELECT buttonto confrm. DE-REGISTER . . . shows on thedisplay ollowed by a confrmation tone.Then, HANDSET X DEREGISTERED shows onthe display to confrm that the handset isderegistered.

    NOTE: When you complete the deregistration process,HANDSET NEEDS REGISTRATION shows on the display. Touse the handset, you must register the handset.

    Global De-RegistrationI one or more handsets become lost, you should de-register all handsetsto ensure proper system operation. Follow the steps below to deregister

    all handsets at the same time.WARNING: It is not recommended that a handset bederegistered unless absolutely necessary because once ahandset is deregistered, that handsets telephone eaturescannot be used until the handset is re-registered.

    NOTE: Beore starting global deregistration procedure, letall handsets set idle or 20 seconds.

    1. Press and hold the PAGE button on the baseuntil the CHARGE/IN USE indicator on thebase ashes.

    . Press and hold the PAGE button on the baseagain until the CHARGE/IN USE indicator onthe base ashes rapidly.

    3. Press and release the PAGE button on thebase once. All handsets are deregistered andHANDSET NEEDS REGISTRATION shows ontheir displays.

    Deault SettingThis option allows you to return the handset to actory preset settings.From the PHONE SETTING menu;

    Flash/Call WaitingI you subscribe to the combined Call Waiting Caller ID service rom yourlocal telephone company, you will receive Caller ID inormation (i available)on Call Waiting calls. During a phone call, you will hear a beep to indicateanother call is waiting on the line and Caller ID inormation or the waitingcall shows on the handset display.

    To connect to the waiting call, press the FLASH/DELETE button on thehandset, and your original call is put on hold.

    To switch between the two calls, press the FLASH/DELETE button.

    TIP: Dont use the TALK/CALL BACK or SPEAKER button onthe handset to activate custom calling service such as call

    waiting, or youll hang up the phone.

    Last Number RedialYou may redial a number up to 3 digits long. To quickly redial the lastnumber you dialed:

    Advanced Intercom FeaturesReceiving an Incoming Call During an Intercom CallI you receive a telephone call during an intercom call, the intercom call isimmediately terminated and both handsets ring. Either handset user maypress the TALK/CALL BACK or SPEAKER button to answer the call.

    Using Intercom with External Telephone CallsDuring a telephone call, you may use the intercom/paging unction topage another handset and have an o line, private (two-way) intercomconversation. You may also have a three-way conversation between

    the external caller and the handsets, or you may transer the externaltelephone call to another handset.

    NOTE: Beore you intercom/page another handset, youmust decide whether you want to create a two-way or athree-way conversation.

    Two-Way Calling1. During an external call, press the INT button to enter the intecom menu.

    This unit receives and displays inormation transmitted by your localphone company. This inormation can include the phone number, date,and time; or the name, phone number, date, and time.

    CID Error CodesVarious Caller ID error messages may appear on the display. Reer to theDisplay Messages section o this User s Guide or more inormation.

    Receiving CID RecordsWhen you receive a call, the Caller ID inormation is transmitted betweenthe frst and second ring. The Caller ID inormation appears on the displaywhile the phone rings, giving you a chance to monitor the inormationand decide whether or not to answer the call.

    Storing CID Records (In CID Memory)I you are not at home or cannot answer, your telephones Caller IDmemory stores the data or the 40 most recent calls you received so youcan see who called while you were unavailable. When the 41st call isreceived, the oldest Caller ID record (1st call) is automatically deleted.

    You may review the stored inormation at any time. Calls received sinceyour last review show as NEW CALL XXon the top line o the display.

    Reviewing CID RecordsAs calls are received and stored, the display is updated to let you knowhow many calls have been received. To scroll CID records:

    1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in talk mode).

    Storing the Last Number DialedStore a dialed number when reviewing it:

    Press the #PAUSE button on the handset to insert a delay in dialingsequence o a stored number when a pause is needed to wait or a dialtone (or example, ater you dial 9 or an outside line, or to wait or acomputer access tone.) Each pause counts as one digit in the dialingsequence.

    phone book record while in talk mode to dial them one by one.

    Picture DownloadDownload Your Own ImageDo you have any avorite images stored in your personal computer thatyou would like to use as your 8041 handset wallpaper or to assign to oneo your 50 available phone book directories? Using the provided ImageEditor Sotware, you can view and convert your images. Once you have

    selected your fle and viewed your image in the sotware, use the includedUSB cable to send the converted image directly into your handset.You can download a total o 15 images in additional to the preset 10wallpapers.

    One-Time Sotware Installation1. Insert the enclosed GE 28041 Image Manager CD into your personal

    computer.

    . Follow the instructions o the program to complete the automaticinstallation.

    3. When the installation process is completed, you will fnd an GE 8041Image Manager CD icon on your PC desktop. Click on this icon to runthe GE 8041 Image Manager Sotware.

    Image EditingOnce you have installed the sotware, ollow these steps to view andconvert your selected images.

    Cued-up music typically produces the best sounding recorded ringer. It isrecommended to begin recording your ringer at the beginning o a song,rather than a portion rom the middle to produce an audibly pleasingcustom ringer.

    Ensure the battery is properly charged (16 hours).

    Battery SolutionsI you experience any o the ollowing problems, even ater ullyrecharging the battery, you may need to replace the battery pack:

    Limited range

    Causes o Poor Reception Aluminum siding.

    Foil backing on insulation. Heating ducts and other metal construction that can shield radio

    Base is installed in the basement or lower oor o the house.

    Base is plugged into AC outlet with other electronic devices. Baby monitor is using the same requency.

    Handset battery is low.
