Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Analysis

An understanding of the principles of PKPD is vital if we are to attempt to relate preclinical results to the acute and long term consequences in humans. This 3-level educational package is designed with a broad audiences in mind and focuses on concepts and real life applications. 5 000 scientists have already been exposed to the course package.

With each level you will build up your confidence and skills within the PKPD field to be able to take into account the complex concentration-response relationships when designing experiments, to provide an interface between numerical analysis and physiological concepts and finally to practise the concepts.

We aim to reach out to pharmacokinetics, pharmacologists of all sorts, medicinal chemists, safety scientists, animal science professionals, statisticians, veterinarians, projects leaders and scientists at regulatory bodies.

Pharmacokinetic – Pharmacodynamic Data Analysis: A hands-on residential course using Phoenix WinNonlin

✚✚ May 19-23 2013, Cambridge, UK ✚✚ Course leaders Drs. J. Gabrielsson and D. Weiner

»The best course in the field of PKPD due to its integration of lectures and hands-on case work«

The course is arranged in collaboration with The Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

This advanced and well established four-day residential course is designed to provide an interface between the computer analysis of PK and PD data and physiological concepts. The participants will practice pkpd concepts by means of the Phoenix WinNonlin and MAXSIM2 simulation software.

This course is geared towards advanced level research scientists in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, regulatory agencies and contract research firms who have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in PK/PD analysis and modelling. Participants who attended the earlier introductory workshop will find this course useful, as well as researchers with a working knowledge of WinNonlin who want to learn more about the advanced features of the programme, with regards to more complex pkpd modeling approaches.

The textbook on »Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Data Analysis: Concepts and Applications«, 4th edition, Swedish Pharmaceutical Press (2010), by Drs Gabrielsson and Weiner will be used as course literature throughout the Intermediate and Advanced workshops and is included in the course fee. Quantitative Pharmacology and PK/PD for Drug Discovery & Development Scientists

✚✚ September 11-12, 2013, Munich, Germany✚✚ Course leader Dr. J. Gabrielsson

»An excellent introduction to the field – PKPD made easy«

This course aims to give the course delegates confidence and encouragement to have a go at PK/PD and to build relationships between bio-science, medicinal chemistry, DMPK, and related scientific disciplines. The programme is comprised of lectures and afternoon group exercises.

The textbook on »Quantitative Pharmacology: An introduction to Pharmacokinetic & Pharmacodynamic Analysis«, Swedish Pharmaceutical Press (2012) by Dr Gabrielsson will be used as course literature. For separate ordering of the book use link below.

Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Data Analysis: A Hands on Course Using WinNonlin

✚✚ October 21-24, 2013, Rome, Italy✚✚ Course leaders Drs. D. Weiner and J. Gabrielsson

»Well-structured with excellent and ambitious teachers«

This intermediate level workshop provides an interface between the numerical aspects of PK and PD data and physiological concepts. Based on the background and concepts provided by the course lecturers, participants will apply this information to use WinNonlin in the solution of hands-on exercises. Newly added to the curriculum is an introduction to population modeling that includes an introduction to the principles of population modeling and assessment of covariate effects, along with an hands-on exercise. Population modeling has been gaining momentum as a powerful tool for leveraging preclinical data to predict human exposure.

Level 1: Introductory Course

Level 2: Intermediate Workshop

Level 3: Advanced Course

Participants should have a background in pharmacokinetics but those with limited experience would also benefit.

The textbook on »Pharmacokinetic & Pharmacodynamic Data Analysis: Concepts and Application«, 4th edition, Swedish Pharmaceutical Press (2012), by Drs Gabrielsson and Weiner will be used as course literature throughout the Intermediate and Advanced workshops and is included in the course fee. Dr Johan Gabrielsson is professor of Integrative Pharmacology at the Swedish Univ of Agricultural Sciences. He has 20 years of experience from the pharmaceutical industry. He has conducted numerous workshops (>4000 participants) on biological (PK/PD) data analysis. He is also

academically affiliated with Dept. of Pharmaceutics, Univ. Tennessee and Univ. of Manchester. He is author of the textbooks »Pharmacokinetic and Pharmaco- dynamic Data Analysis: Concepts and Applications«, 4th ed. 2nd print (2010) and »Quantitative Pharmacology: An Introduction to Pharmacokinetic & Pharmacodynamic Analysis« (2012).

Dr Daniel Weiner is a Sr. Vice President at Certara / Pharsight Corporation. He is a co-developer of PCNonlin, NONLIN84 and WinNonlin and has presented numerous workshops on the statistical evaluation of pharmacokinetic and bioavailability data. He is a co-author, along with Dr. Gabrielsson, of

PKPD awareness is vital if we are to attempt to relate preclinical results to the acute and long term consequences in humans. Pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) comprise traditionally distinct disciplines within pharmacology, the study of the interaction of drugs with the body. It is our intention to show that by deliberately, intimately and systematically integrate these disciplines our understanding of drugs and the efficiency and effectiveness of drug discovery and development may be greatly enhanced. Pharmacologists of all sorts, safety scientists, pharmacokineticists, medicinal chemists, clinicians, statisticians, veterinarians, animal science professionals, project leaders and students of medical, pharmaceutical and veterinary sciences are the primary targets.
