MICHAEL OKE

General Manager

Mike officially became General Manager of the Petes on February 14th,

2013 after serving as the Interim General Manager for four months. He

originally joined the Petes as the Manager of Player Personnel in April

2010. Prior to his role with the Petes, Mike worked with International

Scouting Services (ISS) as Chief Scout and subsequently General

Manager/Chief Scout in September of 2008. Among his many duties,

Mike was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of ISS,

as well as the scouting staff responsible for producing reports on players eligible for the NHL

Draft and WHL, QMJHL, OHL and CHL Import Drafts. Mike was Assistant Coach in charge of

video with Team Pacific at the 2008 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge. He worked as the

Director of Player Personnel and Assistant Coach with the Oshawa Generals from 2004-2006.

He also spent four years as Assistant Coach at Wilfrid Laurier University of the Ontario

University Athletic Association, where he played a role in their trip to the 2001 CIS National

Hockey Championships. In addition, Mike worked for four years as Full-Time Head

Coach/Manager with the Trenton Sting of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League,

winning the 1998 OPJHL Eastern Conference Championship. He is a graduate of the Sports

Administration program at Durham College.

ROB WILSON

Head Coach

Rob was named Head Coach of the Peterborough Petes on May 3, 2018.

He most recently served as Head Coach of the DEL’s Nuremberg Ice

Tigers from 2015-2018, compiling a record of 97-43-0-8. The former

defenceman and Toronto native was named DEL Coach of the Year for

2016-17, and guided his team to league semi-final appearances each

season he was with the club. Wilson’s coaching career began in 2003-04,

and included stints in the EIHL and with Great Britain’s National Team,

Neumarkt/Egna ad Ritten/Renon in Italy, and one season with the DEL’s

Straubing Tigers in 2014-15. Wilson played for the Petes during the

1988-89 season after being acquired from the Sudbury Wolves. He helped the team capture the

J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL Champions that season before embarking on a pro playing

career that included stops in various North American and European leagues. Rob lives in

Peterborough with daughters Jessica and Lynsay, his wife Heidi, and her son Max.

ANDREW VERNER

Associate Coach

Andrew joined the Petes as Goaltender Coach following a 17-year

professional career spanning the AHL, Canadian National Team, and 14

seasons in Europe. Andrew played for the Petes from 1989 to

1992. Prior to being named Associate Coach in June, 2018, Andrew

served as the team’s Interim Head Coach from January to April, 2018

and was Assistant Coach from August, 2014. He is a two-time OHL All-

Star, 2nd round draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers (1991), AHL Calder

Cup Champion (Cape Breton Oilers, 1993), Spengler Cup Gold Medalist

(Kolner Haie, 1999), Men's World Championship Silver and Bronze

Medalist (Canadian National Team, 1996 & 1995, respectively), and Austrian League Champion

(Klagenfurt AC 2003). He has also worked as a Goaltending Consultant for Hockey Canada,

the Austrian National Team, OHL/OHF U16, and is the current Goaltending Consultant for the

Peterborough Minor Petes AAA system. Andrew lives in Ennismore with his wife Allison,

daughter Ella, and son Jacob.

DERRICK WALSER

Assistant Coach

Derrick joined the Petes as an Assistant Coach prior to the start of the

2017-18 season. The New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, native played

nineteen seasons of professional hockey between the NHL (Columbus),

AHL (Syracuse, Saint John, Albany, Toronto), ECHL (Johnstown), KHL

(Chekhov), Swiss-A (Rapperswil-Jona), DEL (Berlin), and was most

recently a Player/Head Coach for two seasons with the Belfast Giants of

the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL). The career point-per-game

defenseman was named QMJHL and CHL Defenceman of the Year in

1997-98. Walser went on to win numerous awards and championships in his career, including

winning the Spengler Cup (2012-13), AHL Calder Cup (2000-01), European Trophy (2010-11),

and the DEL Championship (2004-05, 2005-06, and 2010-11). He was named an All-Star in the

QMJHL (1997, 1998), CHL (1998), ECHL (2000), AHL (2002, 2008), and EIHL (2016, 2017).

Walser spent five seasons as a defenseman in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with

the Beauport Harfangs and Rimouski Oceanic, recording 82 goals, 173 assists, 255 points and

293 penalty minutes in 255 career games. Derrick lives in Peterborough with his wife Sara, and

sons Camden and Hudson.

MIKE DUCO

Player Development Coach

Mike works with the Petes in a part-time capacity while jointly serving as

the Head Coach of the Okanagan Hockey Ontario U18 AAA team in

Whitby. He was an Assistant Coach with the Petes for the 2017-18

season. Prior to joining Peterborough, he was the Head Coach of the

ECHL’s Elmira Jackals after being promoted from Assistant Coach. He

played eight seasons of professional hockey between the NHL

(Vancouver, Florida), AHL (Toronto, Chicago, Rochester), ECHL

(Evansville, Indy, Orlando), EIHL (EC Salzburg) and EBEL (Sheffield

Steelers). In the Mike, was a forward with the Kitchener Rangers for five

seasons and was a member of the 2007-08 OHL Championship team. He recorded 99 goals, 92

assists, 191 points, and 489 penalty minutes in 242 games. Mike lives in Toronto with his

girlfriend, Alexandra.

BRIAN MILLER

Head Trainer

Brian is responsible for the day-to-day medical care of the players. He is

also the Petes Head Equipment Manager. In 2013, Brian won the Gold

Medal as Equipment Manager with Canada's National Jewish Hockey

Team at the Maccabiah Games in Israel. Before joining the Petes, Brian

was the Head Trainer and Equipment Manager of the AHL Saint John

Flames for six seasons. He was the Trainer for two AHL All-Star games

and won the Calder Cup as part of the Flames organization in 2001. Brian

holds a Bachelor of Phys-Ed from Brock University and is a graduate of the

Sports Injury Management program at Sheridan College. Brian lives in Peterborough with his

wife Esther and four children Joshua, Elisha, Luke and Noah.

NATASHA LAGACÉ

Athletic Therapist

Natasha (Tash) joined the Petes in August, 2018. In her role, she assists

Head Trainer Brian Miller in tending to the medical needs of the players.

Tash holds a specialized Honours Kinesiology and Health Science Degree

and Athletic Therapy Certificate from York University. In addition to her role

with the Petes, Tash is the Athletic Therapist for the Peterborough Lakers

and works in the Return to Function Clinic at Hybrid FHP. She has

previously held roles with the Toronto Argonauts, National Ballet of

Canada, and numerous varsity teams.

JOSH GILLAM

Head Strength and Conditioning Coach

Josh joined the Petes as the team’s Head Strength and Conditioning

Coach in September, 2017. Along with his performance team at Hybrid

FHP, Josh executes tailored programs of strength and conditioning,

mobility, activation, injury prevention, pre-game warm ups, post-game cool

downs, and active recovery days with Petes players. A Peterborough

native, Josh graduated from Dartmouth College where he was an Ivey

League Division I dual-sport athlete in hockey and lacrosse. While in

school, he won a Minto Cup in 2006 with the Peterborough Jr. A Lakers

and a Canadian Field Lacrosse Championship. Since graduating, he has played two seasons of

professional hockey in Germany, five season in the National Lacrosse League with the

Minnesota Swarm, and won four Mann Cup championships with the Peterborough Sr. A Lakers.

BROEDIE BIRKHOF

Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach

Broedie joined the Petes team as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning

Coach in September, 2017. He assists in the structure and implementation

of all strength and conditioning programming for Petes players as well as

Hybrid FHP athletes year round. A Peterborough native, Broedie holds a

diploma in Strength and Sports Conditioning from Canadore College in

North Bay where he played three seasons of lacrosse, serving as captain

with the Nipissing Lakers. He is also an NCCP Certified Olympic Weightlifting Coach and is

currently enrolled at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology obtaining a degree in

Education with a specialization in Adult Education. Broedie’s athletic career consisted of

provincial championships in both boxing and football, a top five provincial finish in wrestling, and

three seasons of Senior A Lacrosse split between the New Westminster Salmonbellies and the

Cobourg Kodiaks.

NOAH BUCHOLTZ

Video Coach

Noah is responsible for editing game film to assist the coaching staff in

scouting opponents and analyzing tactics and systems. Prior to joining the

team in a full-time capacity, he spent three seasons as the Video

Coordinator, and has been a long-time volunteer in numerous roles with

both the Business and Hockey Operations departments. Noah is currently

enrolled at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology where he is

completing a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.

BRENLEY SHAPIRO

Mental Performance Coach

Brenley is a Sport Psychology & Performance Consultant, Cognitive

Behavioural Psychotherapist and Certified Sports Vision Trainer. Her

innovative and in depth program development combines theories of

cognition and behaviours into mental skills training, along with scientific

strategies using state of the art technologies to strengthen neurocogntive

processing. Brenley’s rare and unique skill set blended together covers all

aspects of the ‘mental game’ and fundamentally guides clients to master

their mind for ultimate performance enhancement. Brenley has been in

practice for over 18 years working with athletes, teams, individuals, and

organizations and is the founder of Heads Up Mental Game Coaching. Brenley has extensive

experience and a specialized focus in work with hockey teams and players at every level from

minor hockey, through to the OHL, WHL, KHL, AHL & NHL. Brenley is also the Mental

Performance Consultant for the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, and has been been involved in the

OHL Combine, U15 Program of Excellence, and sits on the expert panel for the Coaches

Association of Ontario. She is a published author, powerful keynote speaker, and the Mental

Performance Spokesperson for Gatorade Canada.

CHRIS MCNAMARA

Director of Scouting

& GTA Regional Scout

Chris McNamara joined the Petes as Scouting Coordinator after

spending two seasons as a member of the Kingston Frontenacs

scouting staff. He was named Director of Scouting for the

Peterborough Petes in 2013. Prior to joining the Frontenacs, Chris

worked as a Regional Scout with the Oshawa Generals and as the

OHL Head Scout for International Scouting Services. Born and

raised in Nova Scotia, Chris graduated from St. Francis Xavier

University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics and is a

certified Kinesiologist. Chris lives in Markham, ON and works at the

Canadian Ice Academy in Mississauga, ON where he is the Director

of Hockey Programs. Chris covers players in the GTHL, OMHA SCTA and ETA, while providing

crossover coverage of players in other regions of the province.

RON RINGLER

Northern Ontario Regional Scout

Ron Ringler returned to the Petes family having previously played for

the Petes during the 1967-68 season. Ron, who covers Northern

Ontario, comes to the Petes with a great knowledge of hockey and

the OHL, having previously scouted with the North Bay Centennials,

Oshawa Generals and Saginaw Spirit. Ron also served as an

Assistant Coach with North Bay during the 2000-01

campaign. Originally from North Bay, Ron now resides in Powassan,

ON with his wife Linda.

DAVE GAW

Ottawa & Eastern Ontario Regional Scout

Dave joined the Peterborough Petes scouting staff after spending

several years as the Ottawa Area Scout for OHL Central Scouting

Bureau. Dave also spent four years scouting with the Smiths Falls

Bears of the Central Junior A Hockey League. Residing in

Kemptville, ON, Dave is responsible for filing reports and evaluating

players in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario for the OHL Priority Selection

Draft.

SANDY GEMMITI Central Ontario Regional Scout

Based in Peterborough, Sandy covers players in the OMHA and ETA

eligible for the OHL Priority Selection Draft. Sandy has coached four

seasons in the Peterborough Minor Petes system and has worked as

a coach at two U16 training camps and two U17 training

camps. Sandy lives in Peterborough with his wife Jenn and their son

Alexander.

MATT ST. GERMAIN

South Western Ontario & Michigan Regional Scout

Matt St. Germain, having played with the Petes from 1991 to 1994,

joined the Club's scouting staff in 2011. He covers scouting in

Southwestern Ontario and Michigan. After graduating from the Petes,

Matt spent two years at the University of Waterloo. Matt has been

highly involved in hockey, coaching at different levels over the past

ten years: from 1998-2000 with Windsor AAA 84’s, 2000-2002 with

Leamington Flyers Jr. B, 2002-2004 with Tecumseh Chiefs Jr. B,

2004-2006 with Leamington Flyers Jr. B, and from 2006-2009 with

Sun County AAA 95s.

ANDY HOOPER

South-Western Ontario Regional Scout

Andy joined the Petes scouting staff in 2012, following a five-year

scouting stint with the OJHL Lindsay Muskies. He has been highly

involved in hockey, having previously played with the OCAA Fleming

College, and coaching in both Lindsay and Waterloo. Andy resides in

Waterloo with wife Francine, daughter Shannon and son Ben.

DAN LARMER

Golden Horseshoe Regional Scout

A graduate of Whitchurch Stouffviile Minor Hockey, Dan played junior

hockey for Vaughan and St. Michael’s before moving on to play NCAA

hockey for Mercyhurst. After graduating from Mercyhurst with a B.A. in

Business Management, Dan returned to Stouffville where he was

named the Head Coach and Assistant General Manager of the

Stouffville Spirit of the OPJHL. Dan currently resides in Brantford with

his wife Becky, son Finn and daughter Abby.

DAVE PULFORD

Bantam Scout

Dave joined the Petes in 2015 as the Bantam scout. Residing in

Burlington, he spent his minor hockey career with the Burlington

Eagles before moving on to play junior for the Rockland Nats. While in

Rockland, David studied Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa.

He returned to Burlington after university, where he was an Assistant

Coach and General Manager for a local junior team while also

participating in ISS Hockey’s intern scouting program. He was named

the ISS Intern of the Year at the end of the 2014/15 season.
