“The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant.”

Max DePree

“Leadership is not magnetic personality that can just as well be a glib tongue. It is not "making friends and influencing people", that is flattery. Leadership is lifting a person's vision to higher sights, the raising of a person's performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations.”

Peter F. Drucker

Direct them to simple projects (based on Biblical principles) which can be measured to get them started. (Make sure they do the work)

Develop a “place” or new “position” the person can see themselves in, once they complete their projects

The leader to constantly reinvent themselves! Applying the principle of boskō which allows

you to reinvent yourself in each and every set of circumstances by: Removing the initial stress (as you learn) Providing you with improved understanding Allowing you to communicate with more

effectiveness Giving you a greater chance for individual success Leaving your members/employees with a greater

deal of satisfaction

Page 11: Personal leadership development

If boskō means to “promote (in every way) the welfare of those they lead,” here is our formula for success: Direct an individuals/groups by using their natural

behaviors for works that provide enjoyment and fulfillment, not subject them to undo stress or burnout.

Motivate an individuals/groups by training and rewarding them based on what they value the most.

Empower an individual/groups by appointing and enabling them to use the skill sets and gifting God has designed uniquely for them.

Page 12: Personal leadership development

What is their reason for anxiety? Open ended questions to the individual or group Write them down where they can see them Validate the list, then Prioritize Come to agreement

This process will help you discover: Whether it is a common or individual problems If it’s impact is universal or behaviors/values based Provide you with a plan of attack

Page 13: Personal leadership development

A leader should now be cognizant of the individual/group’s fear/apprehension and how much is behavior/value based

Differentiate how their feelings are “overwhelming” them rather than “regulating” their ability to achieve success, then communicate that “in their language.”

Start formulating a plan they agree on, working backwards from their goal with long-term, mid-term and short-term measurable plans/projects

Page 14: Personal leadership development

Leaders focus on short, mid, and long range projects that are measurable and timely keeping in mind their behavioral shortcomings

To establish personal success patterns in the: Physical Mental Spiritual

Which establishes your leadership through your: Students Peers Teachers

Page 15: Personal leadership development

One’s position is often what an individual believes their life to be

Is the new position within the bounds of the individual or group’s behaviors/values?

Repositioning requires: Opportunity recognition Calculated risk & moving out of a “comfort

zone” Making new contacts and/or friends Belief in self and what God can accomplish with

you Belief that God is in Control

Page 16: Personal leadership development

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace . . .” John 16:33 Discover their point of anxiety Devise a plan that “orders their steps” Direct them to projects that fulfill their calling Develop a new vision/position for them:

First mentally Second through direction Third through moments of recognition (project

success) Fourth with an understanding of how their kingdom

position is impacted by their present focus
