Ashlynn Haun, 10 Freshman Cade Scripter loves the adrenaline rush he experiences when riding his Yamaha 250 motorcycle. But even Cade had to admit that in January of 2015, that rush took on a new meaning when his bike’s engine blew up in mid-air. Unfortunately, he was in the middle of an eighty-foot jump thas left him free falling thirty feet to the ground. With no time to react, Cade hung on to the bike and hit the ground face first. Both he and the bike rolled several times. The accident wasn't becasue of something wrong that Cade did, but simply becuase of a bike malfunction. “It all just happened so fast I really didn’t know what to think. I was just lucky I was alright,” Cade said. Fortunately, his $750 6D helmet did exactly what is was designed to do and Cade walked away with no serious injuries. Cade’s sister, senior Reese Scripter, said the helmet made all the difference. “Compared to most of the accidents I’ve seen during my time in the sport, it was one of the worst,” Reese said. “Cade was really fortunate that he walked away with so few injuries.” The accident, however, did not curb his appetite for racing. Cade has been competing in motocross for ten years. “My favorite part of racing is the adrenaline rush. Whenever I get stressed I can go out and ride,” Cade said. Motocross is a family affair for the Scripters. The Scripters love traveling together and bonding by cheering eachother on at the races. “My Uncle Chad used to race and then my cousin started racing so I just really wanted to start racing as well,” Cade said. “We don’t race locally often because there is more competitions and opportunities out of state,” Reese said. “We go to Colorado every Wednesday to practice and compete every weekend.” It doesn’t look like Cade’s racing career is going to end any time soon. After so many years of riding, Scripter looks forward to getting even better and going further in the world of competitive racing. “My love of racing began when I got my first dirt bike. I definitely see myself racing after I graduate,” Cade said.
