Questions 36- 40

Read the story and answer the questions that follow.

Once there was a very intelligent doctor. He read a lot and he knew how to cure

various types of illnesses. Only the rich came to him because his charges were very high.

He would chase away patients who could not afford to pay him.

“If you can’t pay me, please don’t see me.” This was the notice written on the

board in his clinic. One day, as the doctor was about to leave the clinic with his nurses, a

young man with a big birthmark on his forehead ran to him, pleading him to come to his

house as his father was very sick.

The doctor refused to go. He brushed off the young man, got into his car and

drove off. The young man was so sad that he sat there crying. Then, he remembered his

dying father. He ran home like a deer, only to find that his father had already passed

away.

Many years passed. The young man soon became a very famous and kind doctor.

He was the cleverest and kindest doctor in town. The poor as well as the rich came to see

him. As for the cruel doctor, he had grown old and poor. The villagers did not see him

anymore.

One day, the old doctor fell very sick. He tried treating himself but he failed. His

nurses told him to see the young doctor. Having no other choice, he went. When he came

face to face with the young doctor, he recognized him by the big birthmark on his

forehead. He turned and quickly walked away. At that very moment, the young doctor

called out to him, saying, “I hope you have learnt your lesson. My dad would not have

died if you had come over to my house back then. I am here to cure sick people. I will

treat you.”

The old doctor looked at the young doctor in his eyes and said, “My child, I have

learnt my lesson. Thank you very much.”
