SOALAN TUGASAN /ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

Sepakat College Malaysia (SCM) which was established in 1981, is a leading college in

Malaysia providing part-time Diploma programmes in Science and Mathematics, Business

and Accountancy, and Information Technology. The main campus of SCM is in Kuala

Lumpur and it has 4 branches which are located in Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota

Kinabalu. The classes in SCM are only held on Saturdays and Sundays. SCM currently has

a total of 150 staff and 10, 000 active students in its main campus and other branches. SCM

employs 200 part-time tutors to teach their students.

Previously, SCM used to distribute print modules and audio cassettes of subjects’ contents

to their students and part-time tutors when they come to the campuses for registration or

classes. During this time, a lot of administration and teaching processes were done manually

and face-to-face. In order to improve it’s organisational processes and to transform itself to

become an open and distance learning (ODL) type of institution that can support blended

type of learning which includes face-to-face and online tutoring, the Chief Executive Officer

(CEO) of SCM decided to invest in information technology and system. He believes with the

implementation of a Management Information System (MIS) in SCM, they could improve

their internal processes and provide better services to their students and part-time tutors.

The CEO also realises that the implementation of MIS in SCM will directly or indirectly affect

the daily activities of the college, as such the college’s staff should be prepared for these

changes.

Based on the scenario given, you have to prepare a report on the usage of Management

Information System (MIS) in Sepakat College Malaysia (SCM). In this report, you are

required to identify the functions/activities that are related to students and part-time tutors

and discuss how SCM can use MIS to improve these functions. In this report also, you are

required to discuss how SCM can prepare/manage their staff to face the changes due to the

implementation of MIS.
