What is payroll giving?Payroll giving is a government scheme that lets you help your favourite UK charities and registered good causes.

A regular amount is taken from your weekly or monthly pay before tax is deducted, making your donation tax-efficient. So, for every £1 you donate, it will cost you just 80p (60p if you pay a higher rate tax).

Which charities can I donate to?You can give to any registered charity or registered good cause such as schools or scout groups.

For the first time ever, Royal Mail will match donations made by staff who elect to support the Charity of the Year programme through payroll giving. Royal Mail will match up to £100,000 a year, on a first come, first served basis. See opposite for more information.

Other great charities include the Rowland Hill Fund, which is dedicated to supporting Royal Mail employees, pensioners and their families in times of need.

Who can donate through payroll giving? Payroll giving is open to all Royal Mail Group employees and pensioners. Over 40,000 Royal Mail Group employees and pensioners already make regular donations through their pay. As one of the UK’s biggest companies, if more of us could contribute, we could make a real difference to good causes.

So how do I start donating?Simply complete the payroll giving form overleaf. The minimum donation is £1. There is no maximum limit. Your donations will start to be deducted from your next available pay.

Our Charity of theYear programmeRoyal Mail colleagues voted for Prostate Cancer UK as our Charity of the Year from 2012-2014. This is the UK’s leading charity helping more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Yet, there are nowhere near enough specialist nurses to help those fighting the disease. 250,000 men living with prostate cancer in the UK are getting a second-class service.

You can help them get the specialist care and treatment they need through payroll giving. Any money you donate will be used to recruit and train prostate cancer nurses.

Matched giving from Royal Mail For the first time, Royal Mail will match donations made by staff who elect to support the Charity of the Year programme through payroll giving.

By pledging your support for the Charity of the Year programme, you will be committing to support Prostate Cancer UK and, potentially, other future Charity of the Year partners voted for by colleagues. You can, however, opt out at any time by completing a new payroll giving form.

For the purpose of this Charity of the Year programme, which runs until mid 2014, it is Prostate Cancer UK that will be entitled to receive matched giving from Royal Mail. Royal Mail will match every penny donated on a first come, first served basis up to £100,000 a year.

Only donations from existing Royal Mail staff will be matched for the Charity of the Year programme. In 2014, Royal Mail will review the success of match-funding payroll giving for future Charity of the Year programmes.

Prostate Cancer UK is a registered charity in England and Wales (1005541) and in Scotland (SC039332).Registered company number 2653887.

Royal Mail holds the Guinness World Record for the most charities supported through a payroll giving scheme.
