– WILL FERGUSON

THE POLLEY EFFECT

Sarah Polley is an actress and Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director. Her 2012 documentary, Stories We Tell, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival .

She began acting in the early ’90s, rising to fame as Sara Stanley on Road to Avonlea. From a young age, Polley has used her celebrity to speak out about social injustice. Now in her 30s, Polley is a trusted voice for culture in Canada and an icon for a generation.

She lives in Toronto with her husband and young daughter. @SarahEPolley

Oscar-nominated screenwriter and renowned director Sarah Polley moves from the silver screen to the written page, delving into the complex relationships between brothers and sisters. The result? A very funny collection of family stories and a telling snapshot of a generation.

In her playful memoir, Polley recalls growing up with her four siblings and the shit they did together. From intense rivalries to embarrassing traditions, she cleverly ties her brothers’ and sisters’ childhood antics and behaviours to the way they relate to each other as adults. In doing so, Polley shows us that it’s our brothers and sisters who teach us the most about ourselves. This charming book will have readers remembering everything they love and love to hate about their own brothers and sisters.

A stunning snapshot of the street art movement in Vancouver and the unsung artists who bring life to the city’s streets.

While street art is going mainstream, as a cultural movement it still lurks behind concealed identities and late-night shadows. Author Timothy Taylor sheds light on these artists and the work that has earned them a place in the lifeblood of Vancouver.

This beautiful collection of Rain City’s ephemeral art captures the soul of the city and the people who live to create it.
