family was from England. Her dad worked for the government here in Delhi, which is the capital of India. My brother

loves playing cricket. I don’t care so much, but I go with him sometimes to play on the lawn near the India Gate. I

love to eat fresh mangoes. I even went to a mango festival when I was younger. There were over 100 different kinds

of mangoes! I’d eat them all if I could!

the mornings if my mother is too busy. When we walk home from school, our backpacks are loaded with all of our

books. My favorite subject is English. I like to read stories.

I am a 13 year-old boy. I live in Bengalore. I go to a nice school, and I have to take some days off to give dance

performances. I have been a Yakshagana dancer since I was six years old. I saw a performance, and just knew I

wanted to dance. Since then, I go to my teacher’s place twice a week for lessons. In Yakshagana dancing, it is

important to show your emotions to the audience. I make my emotions come through my body as I dance, and from

my face. I do my own make-up before each performance, and it takes me almost an hour! We are also responsible

for our own costumes. It usually takes about two hours to dress myself, as each costume needs about 75 knots to

stay secure. I wouldn’t want a problem with my costume when I dance, so I am careful! For me, school is important,

but dancing is the most important.

Welcome To Varanasi, India!

about India and it’s people! It is on the Ganga river where people take baths,

Indian Chapati Bread

Prep Time: 15 Minutes Ready In: 30 Minutes Cook Time: 15 Minutes Yields: 10 servings

"A simple but delicious recipe for Indian flatbread. Serve with Indian curry, main dishes, or even use to make sandwich wraps. Enjoy!"

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons olive oil

3/4 cup hot water or as needed

DIRECTIONS:

1. In a large bowl, stir together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour and salt. Use a wooden spoon to stir in the olive oil and enough water to make a soft dough that is elastic but not sticky. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is smooth. Divide into 10 parts, or

less if you want bigger breads. Roll each piece into a ball. Let rest for a few minutes.

2. Heat a skillet over medium heat until hot, and grease lightly. On a lightly floured surface, use a floured rolling pin to roll out the balls of dough until very thin like a tortilla. When the pan starts smoking, put a chapati on it. Cook until the underside has brown spots, about 30

seconds, then flip and cook on the other side. Continue with remaining dough.

Fill in the blank with these words: dal, vegetable, North, Western

1. Chapatis are usually eaten with cooked __________(lentil soup)

or ___________ (Indian curry) dishes, and pieces of the chapati are used to wrap around and pick up each bite of the cooked

dish. They are also eaten with meat dishes like chicken and mutton curry.

2. Chapati is a staple flat bread of ________________India, East Africa, and ________________India.

Welcome To Thiruvananthapuram!

Thiruvanathapuram is in Southern India where there are lots of beaches. It is a place

where people practice and play cricket every day! They play in grass, dirt fields, the street and even on the beach!

Basic Cricket Rules Setup

1. Cricket is played by two teams of eleven on a oval field about 525 ft by about 550 ft.

2. Two wickets (three sticks 28 in. high are placed 66ft apart near the middle of the

field.

3. At each wicket stands a batter.

4. The players in the field move depending on where the batter is.

Play

1. The bowler throws overhand and does not bend the arm, and the ball usually

bounces before it gets to the batter.

2. The bowler on the opposite team bowls to the batter. If the ball hits the wicket the

batter is out.

3. After six bowls to one batter, an umpire (there is one at each wicket) calls “over,” and

another bowler begins bowling to the batter's partner at the opposite wicket.

4. If the batter hits the ball far enough, both batters trade places and they score a run.

They can keep trading places up to 4 times and scoring until the bowling team has

the ball back.

5. If the bowling team gets the ball back and hits the wicket before the batter gets there

the batter is out.

6. If the bowling team catches the ball on the fly they are out.

7. If the ball hits the leg of the batter before the wicket the batter is out.

8. If the ball goes out of the field it is automatically 6 points. If it rolls out it is

automatically 4 points.

9. Once a player is out they are out for the whole game. When one team has 10

players out the inning is over.

10. Substitutions are allowed only for serious injury

Winning

The team with the most points at the end of the two innings wins!
