Passage of Time At Kristoff Farm

By: Kara Cooke

Page 2: Passage of Time - Cooke

This project is about my experience at Kristoff Farm in Sterling, Ma. This farm was abandoned in the late

70’s so it looks much different now than it did 40 years ago. My photos show how grown-in and how

aged the farm is now.

My project is followed by my own versions of each photo.

Barn

This structure used to be a barn where animals, mainly pigs, were held. Inside this barn were many animal stalls, however you cannot see that in this picture. Clearly, this barn is old and abandoned. You can see that the wood is falling apart, as well as the roof. Also, the surrounding plants have grown into the barn. The Kristoff Farm was abandoned in the late ‘70s. I really like this pictures because It really shows how ingrown the barn is, and how unstable it is.

Dump

This photo captures a piece of the dump. In the dump, there were many abandoned vehicles, accompanied by some everyday junk. I found this truck to be the most interesting because it is clear the truck has been rotting for a long time. This truck was probably used for transportation of goods that were produced at the farm and/or pigs and cattle. My supporting evidence of this is that I saw a truck-loading dock at the farm. This truck was built in the 40’s-50’s.

Shelter

This is a picture of a different type of structure at the farm. From the evidence, this structure was used for animal shelter and hay storage. Inside, there were bundles of hay and hay scattered all over the floor. There was also a few stalls that was probably used to shelter pigs. This structure really interested me because of the roof. The roof is made out of a huge piece of tin and acts as one of the walls, too! This structure was abandoned in the late 70’s.

Bones

This is a picture of skeletal bones. I assume that these bones belong to a small animal that was from the farm. These bones could also belong to a small animal that was passing by the farm. I'm not sure exactly what kind of animal these bones belong to. I found this in a grass path in the farm, I almost stepped on the bones! I found this picture to be really interesting because the bones are still completely intact!

Storage

This photo captures the inside of a barn. Inside this barn, there was a bunch of hay on the ground and some bundles of hay. From the evidence, I assume that this barn was mostly used for hay storage. You can see that the plants are really grown in so this barn has been abandoned for quite some time. Kristoff Farm was abandoned in the late 70’s. I thought this picture was unique because it shows how grown in the plants are, and how old the woof is.
