Page 11: Parkies Praat August 2011

Kwata Cricket is derived from an Oshiwambo word meaning catch. The programme seeks to introduce young boys and girls aged between nine

and twelve to the game of Mini cricket and young women aged between 13-17 to learn the game in an after-school setting. Kwata Cricket gives young children the opportunity to be exposed to the game of cricket in an engaging way. It also serves as a medium by which children can be introduced to messages and activities focusing on life skills and HIV prevention.

KWATA

Page 13: Parkies Praat August 2011

Early in the second semester the Development Officers of Cricket Namibia started coaching children after school, inviting interested and talented children to attend additional coaching sessions. To keep the children motivated and positively involved, matches was organized where they can try out their skills and be exposed to a match situation.

We are proud of all the boys and girls involved in this project. They kept PARKIES name high this term. WELL DONE!

Apie Oberholzer took the initiative and substantially upgraded the sporting facilities.

IZAAN LOUW This experience was great. It was so fun to see all those faces lit up when we brought them the toys and snacks. They were so thankful for it; they even said a little prayer before eating. I think it was good for all of the prefects to see how fortunate we are to have a house, food, family and toys. We just want to thank all the people that donated toys for them it was worth it! They really appreciate it.

THE PREFECTS’ COMMUNITY PROJECT

Page 15: Parkies Praat August 2011

DUNELL VAN TAAKIt was an eye opener so see how many children there are that don’t have parents and to think there’s many more in our communities. For me it was a life changing experience just talking to them and to see how much they enjoyed the toys and food we gave them. Thank you to everyone who helped us with our community service project. Thank you for helping us to bring a smile to their faces.

The success of Parkies has been the team work between teachers, parents, coaches and children who are proud to be at Parkies.

A WINNING TEAM

At the Nationals they were also awarded a gold medal and they were also the winners in their category.

Parkies hosted the Montessori Maths and Science quiz for 2011. It was held on the 21st of July 2011 in our school hall. Parkies competed against five other schools in our cluster. Mr. Munene the subject advisor for Maths represented the Regional Office. It was the second time our school won the quiz. Almal betrokke by die biblioteek wil vir albei baie dankie sê. Ons waardeer dit opreg!

SAY NO TO DRUGS CAMPAIGN BY THE GRADE 6 LEARNERS

Page 29: Parkies Praat August 2011

Page 30: Parkies Praat August 2011

PARKIES BO!!!!!!!!

A TREE AND IT’S PARTS by ANONYMOUS GRADE 7 LEARNER

The branches are like life, the way forward isn’t always straight. There might even be some pieces missing. In life you also have an outer shell – the bark – which everyone sees and judges you by. But underneath there is a soft side which may be beautiful or rotten. The way forward is with God, you may take one of the side branches which will seem fun and joyful, but they all lead one way and that is to hell.

But if you accept Jesus as your savior and follow him, you may find a pretty flower at the end of that branch. The flower is heaven.

The leaves are the people that you live with. Some might die and fall off the tree while others will remain green and beautiful forever. Though people like leaves go through hard times. Your life could be chopped short by a sudden occurrence. You may think this will never happen to me, but many trees carry big scars for the rest of their lives just like people do.

Though in the end we could not live without our roots in life. Our families and friends that love us and support us, but the biggest root of them all is God.
