St Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish, Edwardstown
God our Father, who by sending into the world the Word of truth
and the Spirit of sanctification made known to the human race
your wondrous mystery, grant us, we pray, that in professing the
true faith, we may acknowledge the Trinity of eternal glory and
adore your Unity, powerful in majesty. Through our Lord Jesus
Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Trinitarian prayer Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
On the long weekend I decided to head down for a walk on the beach. As I was walking along the beach I was reflecting on the vast wideness of the Ocean, how deep it really is and also reflecting on the creatures that live in the sea that mankind has yet to discover. At the end of the day I concluded the ocean is water containing deep mystery that is hard to discover and hard to get our heads around. This weekend we celebrate the greatest mystery of the faith “The Most Blessed Trinity”. In which we recall the doctrine that God is, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states “The Central mystery of Christian faith and life is the mystery of the Most Blessed Trinity. Christians are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” The Church teaches us that “In God’s Openness, God expresses himself in 3 persons Father, Son and Sprit in which 3 are of equal value (CCC249)”, It’s very hard to explain who and what the trinity is, Christians have debated and have studied it for centuries and have come to conclusion that it’s a deep mystery of God’s love in which God can show himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit! The awesomeness of God is revealed to us in this great feast in which God came down to us, became man, died for our sins, rose from the dead and sent us the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The Trinity is not only some kind of theology that we have in the church; it’s an important part of each day. When we rise and retire we make the sign of the Trinity (The Cross), when we begin Mass we invite the trinity, when we pray we invite the trinity. The Trinity is a fundamental part of our faith and must not be taken for granted. When we baptise we baptise in the Trinity (This is the only way one can become a Christian) it is through the gift that Jesus gives to his Church, the Blessed and Holy Trinity. So let’s take up a challenge and pray that Trinitarian prayer (Located at the bottom of the newsletter) each day in the morning and in the evening giving all praise and thanksgiving to God who is love and mercy and reveals himself in 3 persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).
I also cannot forget that we celebrate the feast of St Anthony this weekend. We must turn to our Patron and ask for his prayers. Don’t just call upon St Anthony when you lose keys or the television remote, call upon him in your everyday lives. His example of living out the love for the Holy Trinity is a deep and wonderful witness to us all. For some reason, Anthony is portrayed as some “weak, softy” Anthony was a fit, strong, big man who had a wonderful zeal for Christ and was actually a university teacher for the formation of priests before he was even a priest himself, as the local Bishop was impressed by his strong and strict zeal for Jesus Christ. Let us follow his holy and inspirational way of life.
God Bless Hugo Chis

Responsorial Psalm
Did you know?????????????????????????
From earliest times, the Church has pondered the relationship between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Doctrine for the Trinity, most eloquently defined at the Council of Chalcedon (451AD) as three persons in one God, is the result of this.
Theologians today continue to contemplate the mystery of the Trinity.
“The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of the Christian faith and of Christian life, God alone can make it known to us by revealing himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” Catechism of the Catholic Church, 261
St Patrick is reputed to have attempted to explain the mystery of the Trinity as God who is three-in-one by using the shamrock as a symbol. Another commonly used symbol of the Trinity is the triangle.
The Trinity is sometimes described as the Lover (Father), the Beloved (Son), and the love between (Spirit).
Our God is relational. Humans, created in the image and likeness of God, are created to be in relationship with others.
Perhaps the greatest prayer of the Trinity is the Sign of the Cross with which we identify ourselves as believers in the Father, Son and Spirit. The acclamation of faith in the Trinity is joined by a gesture tracing the cross of Christ by which salvation came to the world. The Gesture embraces he head (the intellectual aspects of ourselves); the core or centre of our bodies, the gut (the intuitive, spontaneous aspects of ourselves); the shoulders (representing our capacity for work in service of others); and the heart (the emotional aspects of ourselves)
MORNING TEA SUNDAYS: Thank you to those people who have organised a roster for morning tea. This fellowship is a great opportunity after Mass but it is important that providing for the tea and coffee etc does not become a burden for the few. +Please contribute something towards the morning tea in the box provided. This will ensure enough coffee and tea and sugar is available each weekend.
THANK YOU FOR HELP: Thank you to the men who assisted a couple of weeks ago with the shift and clean up around the presbytery after Sunday Mass.
Straw bales have been laid in the Church garden south and east sides in the hope that this can be spread around plants in order to restrict weed growth. We ask for your help to attend to the needs required in both gardens now our tenants have left presbytery.
The PFC is reviewing the prospect of erecting a Columbarium alongside the south wall in this garden in the future. Please speak to the Parish Secretary if you can help.
