The Navy requires riders to wear a 3/4 DOT-approved helmet, eye protection (note: a windshield on a motorcycle is not considered adequate eye protection), gloves, sturdy over-the-ankle footwear, long sleeves and long pants – at a minimum. Bright-colored clothing is also recommended. Riders are also required to wear retro- reflective material during inclement weather and at night. The daily entry fee is $4 for adults and $3 for children ages 5- 17. Guests (with a regular base-guest pass) will be admitted for a $5 fee. Seasonal splashcards are also available for purchase. May 26: Naples NATO Yacht Club Open Day The Naples NATO Yacht Club (NNYC) will begin its sailing season at Nisida with Open Day on Sunday, May 26. The day will include an international regatta and the annual Admirals’ Cup. The event is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and is open to all U.S. service members, their families, and all current and retired NATO personnel. A lunch buffet will be available for free to all active-duty NATO ID cardholders and their dependants. All other NNYC members and guests will be asked to pay €7.50 to cover the cost of the meal. May 28: NOSC Scholarship Award Ceremony The Naples Overseas Support Club (NOSC) will congratulate its 2013-2014 scholarship recipients during a ceremony at the Support Site community center on Tuesday, May 28. Undergraduate and graduate scholarship recipients will be awarded during this one-hour ceremony that is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Naples High School scholarship recipients will be awarded on Tuesday, June 4, during the Senior Recognition Ceremony. May 30: Deadline to Sign Up for Club Beyond Summer Service Project Club Beyond is scheduled to facilitate a service project in Ostrava, Czech Republic, June 15-22. The trip is open to teenagers (grades 9-12) who are children of U.S. military, civilians, contractors and NATO ID cardholders. The cost of the trip is $399 per participant in addition to airfare. Club Beyond is a command-sponsored, non-denominational program that organizes youth activities and trips for spiritual development and mentorship. May 31: Naples Elementary School PTA Spring Carnival The Naples Elementary School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) will hold its annual Spring Carnival fundraiser from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 31, at Support Site’s Central Park. Tickets must be purchased for the event’s food and games. Contact the PTA to buy tickets in advance. The association is also looking for volunteers to help collect tickets, run games and clean up. May 31: Submission Deadline for Teen Employment Applications Teens must submit applications for summer employment opportunities no later than Friday, May 31. Applications are being accepted at the Teen Center for all teens, 15-18 years old, who are U.S. ID cardholders. June 4: Battle of Midway Commemoration at Capo All personnel are invited to a ceremony at Capo on Tuesday, June 4, to commemorate the Battle of Midway. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Capo piazza to mark the 71st anniversary of a significant naval victory. NSA Naples Commanding Officer Capt. Scott Gray is scheduled to serve as guest speaker. All military are requested to be in ranks no later than 8:15 a.m. Military attendees should wear their uniform of the day. June 4: Naval Hospital Starts Walking Group at Support Site U.S. Naval Hospital Naples will start a weekly walking group at Support Site for community members on Tuesday, June 4. The group will depart from the hospital quarterdeck at noon each Tuesday. Participants have the option to join a weight-loss support group immediately following the walk, which will meet in the Hospital Health Promotions Conference Room. June 5: Italian Army Band Performing with CNE Band at Capo The Fanfara dei Bersaglieri, an Italian army band that plays its instruments while running, is scheduled to perform with U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band on Wednesday, June 5. The bands will perform during morning colors in the Capo piazza. June 5/7/10/11: Naples Tiger Sharks Summer Swim Program and Team Evaluations Naples Tiger Sharks will hold a summer swim program and swim team evaluations during the first two weeks of June at Capo’s indoor Fit Zone pool. Evaluations will take place on June 5, 7, 10 and 11. Children of U.S. military, civilian and NATO ID cardholders are eligible to participate. Swimmers 12 years old and under must demonstrate basic swim stroke skills and be able to swim two of the four competitive strokes for 50 meters without stopping. Swimmers 13-19 years old must demonstrate basic swim stroke skills and be able to swim two of the four competitive strokes for 100 meters without stopping. June 7: Calling All Active / Inactive Eagle Scouts in Naples The Transatlantic Council (Europe) of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is establishing a database for Eagle Scouts in the region. June 8: Tiger Shark Carwash Fundraiser at Support Site Naples Tiger Sharks will be conducting a carwash fundraiser on Saturday, June 8, at the Fire Department facility on Support Site. Community members are invited to bring their cars from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Tiger Sharks will also offer grilled hot dogs and other refreshments. June 12: Summer Hours in Effect for School Age Care Playground / Pavilion Starting Wednesday, June 12, the School Age Care playground area (adjacent to the Support Site library) will be closed to community members from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during weekdays except for Fridays. MWR will use this area for a summer camp program scheduled to run June 17 through Aug. 23. In addition, the pavilion area between the fire station and Youth Center will be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the same timeframe. June 14: College Graduation / Recognition Ceremony A graduation and recognition ceremony will be held at Capo on Friday, June 14, for community members who have graduated from any college within the past year. MWR is currently looking for base-recognized, private organizations to sell items at food booths and craft tables. Volunteers are also needed to help run the event. May 28: Registration begins for the “Rusty Guard” Lifeguard Recertification Course. Community members can sign up at the Fitness Forum’s front desk for the June 11-12 class at the Support Site pool. The class will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each day. The cost per participant is $45. Students must provide proof of their current CPR pro/AED certification and a valid “due to expire” lifeguard certification. June 7-8: Coaches will evaluate children planning to participate in summer gymnastics classes at the Youth Center to determine their ability level. The upcoming gymnastics season for youth will run differently from previous seasons. Children ages 5-14 will be placed in groups (e.g., Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3) based on level of experience. Parents will be given a placement form upon completion of the evaluation to hand in for summer registration. Registration is scheduled to take place June 10-17.
