FAZtor ’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora Welcome to the holiest of weeks, welcome to Holy Week! We start Holy Week with Palm Sunday as we welcome Jesus with palms in our hands, so that we

are reminded that God is holding us in the palm of His hand. Join us in our parish activities this week, especially the Paschal Triduum, the three days starting with Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and our Easter Vigil. Make this week truly a holy week for you. Unfortunately the holy days of this week are not considered holi-days. What’s the difference? Rabbi Sidney Greenberg gives us the difference between Holidays and Holy Days. On Holidays we run away from duties, On Holy days we face up to them. On holidays we try to empty our minds, On holy days we bring ourselves under control. On holidays we try to lift up our spirits, On holy days we attempt to replenish our spirits. On holidays we reach out for things we want, On holy days we reach up for things we need. One brings a change of a scene, The other a change of heart. One pampers our bodies, The other nourishes and challenges our soul.

In Florida, an atheist created a case against Easter and Passover Holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days. The argu-ment was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.

The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the pas-sionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declar-ing "Case dismissed!"

The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, How can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays..."

The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant."

The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."

The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned..."

April 1st or April Fools Day this year is not a holiday, but definitely a holy day because it falls during Holy Week. Don’t be a fool, but definitely be holy!

Divine Mercy Novena The Divine Mercy novena begins on Good Friday. Each of the 9 days has a petition that seeks God’s mercy for different purposes. Again this year, the Holy Name community will join Catholics around the world in the short novena prayers and then celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday on April 12th. Pamphlets with instructions are located at the church exits.
