Built in the seventeenth century, Palazzo Clary belonged to the illustrious Bon family, before being inherited first by the Priuli family and then, from the nineteenth century, to the noble Franco-Austrian family of the counts of Ficquelmont, and finally to the Austrian princes of Clary and Aldringen.

After the Second World War, the building housed the historical seat of the Consulate of France, until that was moved to Trieste at the end of the ‘90s.

Although remodeled during the nineteenth century, the building retains the late-Renaissance style, seen primarily on the façade, which is spread over three floors plus the mezzanine in the attic. On the ground floor there is access to the property through a central portal with architrave, surmounted by two paired coats of arms, while the main and second floors are characterized by large central paintings consisting of round arches supported by Ionic columns, and pairs of single-lancet windows to complete the façade symmetrically. The stone balustrades of the main floor are adorned with small statues of lions, while the mezzanine has rectangular windows, dominated by the notched cornice that crowns the entire façade.

In classic nineteenth century style, the palazzo has a unique courtyard with a fountain, created by the union of the two existing courtyards and the construction of a covered gallery leading from the middle of the main staircase to the shore landing, and occupying part of the existing mezzanine.
