Mission

The Pagosa MAKERS Expo & Tour promotes and supports local MAKERS while attracting cultural tourists to Pagosa country.

Thank You’sThis event would not be possible without the tireless effort of the Pagosa Arts & Culture Project Board: D. Michal Coffee, Denise Coffee, Karl Isberg, Laura Moore, Paula Jo Miller and Leanne Goebel, and the gallons of coffee and Bailey’s that kept us going. It takes more than 4,250 volunteer hours to make this event possible.

Thank you to SHY RABBIT Contemporary Arts and the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts for hosting the Expo portion of the event.

We are grateful to all our sponsors and anonymous donors for financially supporting this project and our creative community: Pagosa Springs Town Tourism Committee, Anne and King Campbell, DDS, The Pagosa Springs SUN, Carolyn Schwulst and Lea Young, Parelli Natural Horsemanship, Bank of Colorado, Art & Framing Center, 1st Southwest Bank, DSP Pizzeria, Pagosa Springs Medical Center, The Backroom Wine Bar and First Crush, Quality Resort and Quality Inn, Red Dog Ridge, The Lindblad Group, Paula Miller and Lowell Wiles, Ross and Sonya Aragon, Martha H. Bledsoe, Sherry Phillips, Debra Ferrari and Sandy Applegate.

Pagosa Country has become a desirable home for MAKERS of all types and is a community in which

creative and productive individuals and groups wanting to build a business or enterprise can live and create. It is a wonderful environment, welcoming the painter or sculptor who wants to establish a studio, and is an increasingly vital place in which professional theater folk can ply their trade. Several of the most active arts-oriented nonprofit organizations in the region are located here: SHY RABBIT Contemporary Arts, the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts and FolkWest. In the first case, an international reputation has been established, with SHY RABBIT mounting shows and juried exhibitions that include work from local talents as well as from artists from around the world. Operating out of the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, the Thingamajig Theater Co. has set the bar for professional theater in the region at a new, high level and continues to

shine with remarkable productions — dramas, comedies, musicals — that draw patrons from a wide area. FolkWest has long been known for producing some of the finest musical festivals in the West — the annual Pagosa Folk and Bluegrass Festival at the start of summer and the Four Corners Folk Festival on the Labor Day weekend. Both festivals take place at a spectacular venue atop Reservoir Hill in downtown Pagosa Springs and feature some of the most notable acts in the music and recording industry. With these leading lights as an example, and fueled by a desire to see this environment develop and improve, the Pagosa Arts and Culture Project was established to assist in building the MAKERs community and to stimulate the process of establishing Pagosa Country as a vital and growing arts and culture destination. >>>

4 / 2014 PAGOSA MAKERS EXPO & TOUR PROGRAM GUIDE

The original board of directors included Laura Moore of the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, Michael and Denise Coffee of SHY RABBIT Contemporary Arts, Crista Munro of FolkWest, arts writer and critic Leanne Goebel, Rich Lindblad former director of the Community Development Corporation, and artist and writer Karl Isberg. When Munro relocated out of state (remaining an ex officio member of the board), and Lindblad stepped down from his position, artist and nonprofit consultant Paula Miller joined as a director. Most recently, Polly McLaughlin joined the board bringing with her years of professional marketing and non profit management experience. The PACP has two primary goals — the first is to promote, encourage and help the many creative MAKERS, both individuals and organizations become viable and sustainable by branding locally made products and promoting local MAKERS in Pagosa. The PACP

recognizes that the creative soul of a community is reflected by a full spectrum of activity, each element important in its way. As a result, the PACP has organized and is hosting this second Pagosa MAKERS Expo & Tour. Following last year’s extremely successful inaugural expo and tour, this event showcases individuals and businesses that are part of a rapidly developing cultural environment. Our second goal has a greater reach: to propel Pagosa to the forefront as a community defined by the creative people and enterprises that call it home. And to make Pagosa a desirable destination for those who seek out the arts and the products of creative business ventures. Creative Pagosa is evolving with a meaningful identity, and the Pagosa Arts and Culture Project will continue to be a driving force in that process — here for any and all MAKERS, for all who create, and for all who value what is created.
