installed, including printer options such as duplexer and the driver is installed on the PC / Macintosh.

For driver installation we would like to refer you to the

installation guide. For the installation of printer options, such as a duplexer, we

would like to refer you to the User Manual.

Both manuals are available on the CD Rom shipped with your printer.

1.3 How to use Page Scope Web Connection? NOTE:

‐ Page Scope Web Connection only works if the printer is connected to the network and an IP address has been defined.

With Page Scope Web Connection it is possible to remotely configure the printer instead of using the menu options via the printer display. To access Page Scope Web Connection you can either enter the printer IP Address in your Internet Explorer or open Page Scope Web Connection through your printer driver. Opening Page Scope Web Connection through the printer driver:

1. Select the Start Button, 2. Select Control Panel,

3. Select Printers and Faxes,

4. Right click on the pagepro 4650/5650 / bizhub 40P printer driver and select

Properties.

5. Select the Printing Preferences …. Button.

6. Select the Printer Information button. 7. Your internet explorer will be launched automatically.

Opening Page Scope Web Connection through Macintosh: NOTE:

‐ Page Scope Web Connection does only work if the printer is connected to the network and an IP address has been defined or via Bonjour (Rendezvous) has been defined.

With Page Scope Web Connection it is possible to remotely configure the printer instead of using the menu options via the printer display. To access Page Scope Web Connection you can either enter the printer IP Address in your Internet Explorer or open Page Scope Web Connection through your printer driver. Opening Page Scope Web Connection through the printer driver:

1. Access Levels: ‐ Public User: For viewing printer information it is sufficient to login as public

user. For this connection is no password required and printer settings and consumable status can be viewed.

‐ Administrator: For changing printer default settings, this access level has to be used. The default password is ‘administrator’ (without the quotes).

2. Short overview of available options:

‐ System: View printer status, consumable status etc. Also here the default password can be changed and date & time can be set.

‐ Job: Overview of active jobs and printed jobs. ‐ Print: Within this menu option you are able to change the printer defaults

such as: Paper Type, Paper Size, Tray Mapping, Emulation defaults, etc. ‐ Network: Within this menu you can enable/disable the network protocols or

setup the details for all network protocols.

2 Printing from PC:

2.1 How to configure installed printer options in the driver? If there are additional options installed on your printer such as a duplex unit, optional paper tray, hard disk, etc you might have to “tell” the printer driver that these options are installed. This has also to be done once.



4. Right click on the pagepro 4650/5650/bizhub 40P printer driver and select

Properties.

5. Select the Configure tab.

6. Select from the Device Options the option that is installed. 7. Change the Setting for the option to Enabled.

2.2 How to print on special media such as thick stock? You can print on special media such as transparencies, labels, heavy paper, glossy paper and card stock, by using the optimizing feature in the printer driver. For printing on special media both the printer and the printer driver have to be setup. In case multiple input trays are installed, the different input trays can be set to different types of media. The printer will, depending on the driver settings, automatically select the corresponding paper tray.

2.2.1 Setup the printer. NOTE: You can also use Page Scope Web Connection for changing the media type for a certain input tray.

1. Press the button.

2. Press the button till Paper Menu is highlighted.


4. Press the button till Paper Source is highlighted.


6. Press the button till Tray1 or Tray2 is highlighted.


8. Press the button till Paper Type is highlighted.


10. Press the button till the required media type is highlighted.


12. Press the button till ready is shown in the printer menu.

2.2.2 Setup the printer driver.

1. Load the media input tray. Make sure that the top of the media is forward and the side to be printed on (the rough side of transparencies) is facing up.

2. Adjust the media guides to fit the width of the media.

3. Open a document in a program, such as Microsoft Word.

4. Select the print command. For most programs, click the File menu, and then click

Print. The Print dialog box appears.

5. On the Print dialog box, click Properties.

6. On the Basic tab, select one of these media types under Paper Type:

● Plain Paper ● Recycled ● Transparency ● Envelope ● Label ● Thick 1 ● Thick 2 ● Thick 3, pagepro 5650EN only ● Postcard ● Thin paper, pagepro 5650EN only

7. Print the document.

The media type can also be selected and configured directly in the printer driver.

The above method is only valid for that print job. Changing the Paper Type directly in the driver will make the setting valid for all print jobs.



4. Right click on the pagepro 4650/5650 / bizhub 40P printer driver and select

Properties.

5. Select the Printing Preferences …. Button.

6. Change the Paper Type.

7. Select the OK button to save the changes.

2.3 How to print collated copies? NOTE: ‐ Some applications have the possibility to collate your output. ‐ If the application does not support collation, the printer can do the collation but this

feature requires a printer hard disk or Flash Card. Normally when you print, say 5 copies of a 5 page document, the printer will print 5 copies of page 1 followed by 5 copies of page 2, etc. With collation turned on, the copies are being sorted automatically. When you print, say 5 copies of a 5 page document, the printer will now print page 1 followed by page 2, page 3, page 4 and page 5 and then again page 1, 2, 3, etc.


2. Select the print command. For most programs, click the File menu, and then click Print. The Print dialog box appears.


4. On the Basic tab, define the Number of Copies and enable the Collate option. 5. Print the document.

2.4 How to print automatically on both sides of the paper (duplex)?

NOTE: ‐ Automatic duplexing is ONLY supported if a duplex unit has been installed. If there is

no duplex unit installed, manual duplexing can be used. ‐ It is NOT possible to duplex special media such as post cards, envelopes or

transparencies. ‐ Additional memory may be required for complex print jobs.

2.5 How to print a booklet? NOTE: ‐ Printing a booklet is ONLY supported if a duplex unit is installed. ‐ It is NOT possible to print a booklet with special media such as thick stock, post cards,

envelopes or transparencies.

‐ Additional memory may be required for complex print jobs.





4. Select the layout tab.

5. Change the Print Type to Booklet.

6. Select the Booklet Details button to change the Binding Direction and enable or disable a border.

2.6 Print on custom media sizes. There are 2 different custom media sizes that can be defined and used:

2.7 Print on banner sized paper. Length: 356 ‐ 900 mm Banner paper is not supported for printing at 1200 dpi. Image quality of the area from 356 to 900 mm in length is not guaranteed. Loading banner paper: NOTE: One Paper up to 900 mm length can be loaded into the bypass tray and printed at one time.

1 Open the tray 1 and place it on a flat surface.

2 Remove the lid of the tray.

3 Slide the right and left lock tabs in the tray outwards to unlock them.

4 Hold the grip of the tray and

pull its extendable part to the front until it reaches the end.

5 Squeeze the media guide

(length) and slide it to the desired paper size.

6 Squeeze the media guide (width) and slide it to the desired paper size.

7 Load the banner paper face up in the tray, and then roll up the end of the paper so that it does not fall off the tray.

8 Push the tray completely into

the printer.

9 Select PAPER MENU/PAPER SOURCE/TRAY 1/PAPER SIZE and PAPER TYPE in the configuration menu, and then select the setting for the size and type of the media that is loaded.

Setup the printer and the printer driver as described in the chapter: Print on Custom Media sizes.

2.8 Some Special Printer Features.

2.8.1 Thumbnail Printing – Number Up printing. Number Up printing (N‐Up) printing means that the printer will scale down the pages and fit them on onto an A4 sheet. The various page order possibilities when Number Up printing is shown below.

From the printer driver you can select to print up to 16 pages on one single sheet of paper. From the printer driver you also have the possibility to define if there should be a border around the pages or not.

2.8.2 Watermarks. A watermark is a text line for special purposes, such as “Confidential” or “Draft”. A watermark is generated by the printer driver. The watermarks can be edited or changed within the printer driver. A watermark will always be on top of the text (by default).

The text under the watermark is not readable anymore. Current products have the option to put the watermark transparent, this will

overcome the issue that the text under the watermark is not readable.

2.8.3 Poster Printing. NOTE: Poster Printing is only supported from the PCL printer driver. Enlarge one‐page data to print onto multiple pages. You can make a large print like a poster by assembling them later. Enlarge and print one‐page data onto number of pages specified by Output Size (N x N).

2.8.4 Overlay Printing. NOTE: When using the PostScript driver, the printer requires a hard disk to use overlay printing. When using the PCL driver, the overlay is stored locally on your PC and the printer does not require a hard disk. Overlay printing is a flexible way of merging data on the page. You can design the overlay in your favorite graphics application and store as many as you like on your PC. An overlay and text are mixed together.

The text from both the overlay and the document remain readable.

2.8.5 Front Cover Page and Back Cover Page. It is possible to select in the printer driver to add to your print job a blank Front Cover page or blank Back Cover page. You can define from which tray this cover page should be taken.

Front Cover Page Blank: Attach a blank front cover page to the print job, and start printing the document on the second page.

Back Cover Page Blank: Attach a blank back cover page to the print job.

2.8.6 Separator Page. Specify whether to print a separator page between print jobs. None: Do not print a separator page. Header (Each Copy): Print a separator page at the beginning of each copy of each printed document. Trailer (Each Copy) :Print a separator page at the end of each copy of each printed document.

2.8.7 Direct Printing from an USB stick. NOTE: This feature requires a hard disk or Flash Card installed. USB host port support direct printing from a USB memory stick. Supports PDF (version 1.6), JPEG and TIFF. Allows instant printing of PDF documents without using a PC.

2.8.8 Secure Printing. NOTE: This feature requires a hard disk or Flash Card installed. Print & Hold

3 Printing from Macintosh:

3.1 Check if the correct PPD is installed and to configure installed printer options in the driver?

If there are additional options installed on your printer such as a duplex unit, optional paper tray, hard disk, etc you might have to “tell” the printer driver that these options are installed. This has also to be done once.

7 Load the banner paper face up in the tray, and then roll up the end of the paper so that it does not fall off the tray.

9 Select PAPER MENU/PAPER SOURCE/TRAY 1/PAPER SIZE and PAPER TYPE in the configuration menu, and then select the setting for the size and type of the media that is loaded.

3.8 Some Special Printer Features.

3.8.1 Thumbnail Printing – Number Up printing. Number Up printing (N‐Up) printing means that the printer will scale down the pages and fit them on onto an A4 sheet. The various page order possibilities when Number Up printing is shown below.

From the printer driver you can select to print up to 16 pages on one single sheet of paper. From the printer driver you also have the possibility to define if there should be a border around the pages or not.

3.8.3 Poster Printing. NOTE: Poster Printing is not supported from Macintosh.

3.8.4 Overlay Printing. NOTE: Overlays are not supported from Macintosh.

3.8.5 Front Cover Page and Back Cover Page. NOTE: This is not supported from Macintosh.

3.8.7 Direct Printing from an USB stick. NOTE: This feature requires a hard disk or Flash Card installed. USB host port support direct printing from a USB memory stick. Supports PDF (version 1.6), JPEG and TIFF. Allows instant printing of PDF documents without using a PC.

‐ If the company network has DHCP enabled, the DHCP setup might change the printer IP address of the printer after rebooting. To make sure the DHCP server does not change the printer IP address, disable DHCP in the printer.
