Precautions While Underway

Boating Safety

Failure to follow these precautions willresult in serious injury or death. The operator shall: Check that the area behind the boat is all clear

before starting the engine to AVOID PROPELLERINJURY to persons in the water behind the boat oron the swim platform.

Turn off the engine prior to anyone occupying theswim platform or being in the water behind theboat to AVOID PROPELLER INJURY. Being inneutral gear is insufficient; the propeller may stillbe turning, or engine may be inadvertently shiftedinto gear.

Not back the boat toward persons in the waterbehind the boat to AVOID PROPELLER INJURY.

Not allow people to be on or near the swimplatform or in the water near or around the swimplatform while the engine is running becauseCARBON MONOXIDE will exist around the back ofthe boat when the engine is running. Engineexhaust contains carbon monoxide, which is adeadly, odorless, colorless gas.

Not operate the engine in a confined space orwhile tethered to another vessel as CARBONMONOXIDE will be around the boats.

Not go under the boat cover with the enginerunning or shortly after the engine has beenrunning because CARBON MONOXIDE mayremain under the cover. Remove cover to ventilatethe area.
