` The Core Technology in 4G.

    `

A 4G system will be able to provide a comprehensive IP solutionwhere voice, data, streamed, multimedia can be given to users onan Anytime, Anywhere basis, and at higher data rates thanprevious generations.

` The 3G technology adds multimedia facilities to 2G phones byallowing video, audio, and graphics applications. Over 3G phones, you can watch streaming video or have video telephony.

` 3G networks deliver broadband capacity and support greaternumbers of voice and data customers at lower incremental costs

    than 2G.

Standards:- W-CDMA: Wideband Code Division Multiple Access- EVDO: Evolution-Data Optimized

    1G

` Poor voice quality` Poor battery life

    ` Large phone size

    ` No security

    ` Frequent call drops

    `

    Limited capacity

    2G

` The GSM is a circuit switched, connection oriented technology, where the end systems arededicated for the entire call session. This causes inefficiency in usage ofbandwidth and resources.

` The GSM-enabled systems do notsupport high data rates.

` They are unable to handle complexdata such as video.

    3G

    ` High bandwidthrequirement.

    ` High spectrum licensingfees.

    ` Huge capital.

` Theoretically, 4G is set to deliver100mbps to a roaming mobiledevice globally, and up to 1Gbps toa stationary device.

` According to 4G Mobile Forum, by2010 over $400 billion would beinvested in 4G mobile projects.

` Each node will be assigned a 4G-IP address (based on IPv6).

` The idea is that the 4G-IP address (IPv6) can carry moreinformation than the IP address (IPv4)

` IPv6 means Internet Protocol Version 6 including 128 bits, whichis 4 times more than 32bits IP address in IPv4. 32 bits IP addresslooks like this 216.37.129.9 or11011000.00100101.10000001.00001001 (32 bits).

    ` The IP address in IPv6 version will be 4 times of IPv4; it looks like216.37.129.9, 79.23.178.229, 65.198.2.10, 192.168.5.120

` The IP address is based on IPv6.

    ` IPv4: X .X .X .X (32 bits)

    example: 216.37.129.9

    ` IPv6: 4 IPv4 (128 bits)

    example:216.37.129.9 , 79.23.178.229 , 65.198.2.10 ,192.168.5.120

Change the modulation and coding format in accordance withinstantaneous variations in channel conditions.

Optimize system parameters like signal bandwidth, signal power, training period etc.

` OFDMA Technology that transmits data simultaneously over a large

number of channels at different frequencies, enable to send anlarge data with reduced receiver complexity.

Using technologies such as smart antennas and MIMO.

` SDR SDR technology is enabling frequencies and communications

methods and to be changed flexibly by means of software. Itresponses to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).

Higher frequency reuse leads to smaller cells that may causeintra-cell interference or higher noise figures due to reduced powerlevels.

The Digital to analog conversions at high data rates, multiuser

detection and estimation (at base stations), smart antennas andcomplex error control techniques as well dynamic routing will needsophisticated signal processing.

` NEW DELHI -- India's telecommunications regulator said it will sendits proposals to the government by June on fourth-generation, or4G, mobile technology that will allow users to watch high-definitionvideo and download content on mobile devices at a much fasterpace.

` The 4G technology, while in its infancy, holds the promise of Internetspeeds at least five times faster than typical third-generationnetworks now common in Europe and the U.S.

` Reliance has plans to launch a 4G Tablet in India this year.

` If Reliance can launch a 4G tablet it can as well launch a 4G phone. It can collaborate with HTC to get HTC Thunderbolt to India. Thatsa possibility.

    4G is Anytime Anywhere

4G is still at research stage, available after 2011 (?)...

... While the impact of 3G is still uncertain!

Employing the discussed techniques, 4G has a significant potentialfor capacity improvements over 3G systems.

Companies developing 4G technology investing about $400 billionfor its projects.

More Users/subscribers due to IPV6,large space.
